The United Kingdom cannot afford to be squeezed between a resurgent United States, a federalising European Union, and an assertive China. It is my view that if Britain is to thrive as a sovereign, self-confident nation, we must look first to those who share our language, our institutions, our common law tradition, our parliamentary democracy, and our Head of State: a CANZUK alliance made up of our kith and kin in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand - nations bound together by history, by shared sacrifice, and by common ancestry. Broader still, we must make full use of the Commonwealth - fifty-six independent nation-states linked by historic ties to our great country. The Commonwealth may be brought together by our past; however, unlike the European Union, its nations represent the markets of the future. A truly Global Britain must rediscover the influence born of our proud history - a soft-power that is the envy of the world.

We cannot accept any unrealistic emissions caps (de facto production caps) on our oil and natural gas industry. We also find the 2035 net zero targets for electricity to be unachievable and will put the reliability and affordability of our power grid at risk. I was at the National Mosque, Abuja, earlier today, where I joined the congregation in prayers for our fallen heroes as the nation prepares to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Our prayers shall continue to be with the families of members of our Armed Forces who paid the supreme price to make our nation safer. In these solemn moments, we remember that sacrifice with deep appreciation. Indeed, the role our Armed Forces played and continue to play in keeping our nation safe and safeguarding the territorial integrity of our dear country cannot be overemphasised. We remain eternally grateful. May their service to the nation and the sacrifices they made never be in vain. I also had the pleasure of attending the wedding fatiha of the daughter of my late friend, the Ex CG of Customs, Alhaji Ahmed Hamma Kojoli, at the same venue. I congratulate the couple and wish them a happy home. -AA
