Today is my third visit to the San Diego area in the last 10 months. EPA has been working EVERY DAY at implementing the permanent, urgent 100% solution to the decades old Tijuana River raw sewage emergency. The agreement we signed with Mexico last year includes reduced timelines and additional necessary Mexico side projects (at no added US taxpayer cost). As these project are completed in 2026 and 2027 (with one project slated for 2028), Americans will be finally crossing the long awaited finish line of this crisis and nightmare.

There are 22 billion gallons of raw sewage flowing into San Diego, California from Mexico It turns out - The Coastal Commission, the agency that's supposed to protect our coastline, approved a 600% increase in sewage flowing from Mexico into the United States - The California Coastal Commission also promised sewage treatment upgrades more than 20 years ago, and those upgrades are still unfinished - California has access to $48 billion in federal water funding, yet it hasn't been used to fix South Bay sewage crisis - In 2020 Gavin Newsom signed SB507 bill, which decommissioned pumps and lift stations and allowed sewage to flow into the United States via the Tijuana river valley “So our beaches stay closed, our coastline continues to erode, and our community stays sick.”
