Using guerrilla warfare, the Taino were able to defeat the Spaniards in Cuba for almost a year. Not all Taino agreed with Hatuey, and the colonizers were able to overtake and capture Hatuey and his men. Before his execution in 1512, as his rites of faith were being read, Hatuey, who knew nothing of heaven or hell, resisted converting to Christianity and chose instead to go to a burning hell than share heaven with the Spaniards. The spirit of Cacique Hatuey lives.

My friend Abdi Mohamud had mentioned an urgent matter which is the misappropriation of Somali culture under the “East African “ banner: Somali culture is rich, vibrant, and distinct, with unique traditions ranging from the elegant Dirac dress to the lively baati parties and flavorful cuisine. However, there has been a growing trend of cultural appropriation where certain individuals and groups, particularly from neighboring East African countries like Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Burundi, claim Somali cultural elements as part of a vague “East African” identity. This practice not only erases Somali heritage but also misattributes iconic Somali traditions, such as the Dirac and Alindi clothing, to unrelated cultures like those of the Arab world or India, despite these regions not wearing such garments in their traditional contexts. The Dirac, a flowing, colorful dress adorned by Somali women for special occasions, is a hallmark of Somali identity. Similarly, the Alindi, a traditional clothing, carries deep cultural significance. Yet, these garments are often mislabeled as “Arab” or “Indian” by those seeking to dilute their Somali origins. While Arab and Indian cultures have their own distinct clothing styles, they do not include the Dirac or Alindi, making such attributions inaccurate and dismissive of Somali craftsmanship and heritage. The U.S. teaches Plymouth as the “first Thanksgiving” in order to erase the older Hispanic-Catholic roots of America. Norway is the best country in Europe by far and it's not even close. 🇳🇴 How do I know? 1- my wife's family is from there, and I have ancestry from there too (albeit less)... AKA BASED 😎 2- If I had to pick one European country that American conservatives should admire the most, it would be Norway. Underneath the modern politics is a culture that still values many of the things conservatives care about. Norway consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world. Violent crime remains relatively low, corruption is among the lowest anywhere on Earth, and there's a deep sense of high trust that didn't happen by accident. It was built over centuries through strong communities (especially small and local), and a culture that expects people to actually contribute rather than simply consume. Its history matters. Norway spent centuries as a Christian kingdom after the conversion of King Olaf II in the 11th century. Christianity shaped its laws, holidays, moral framework, and national identity long before modern politics existed. Even today, despite increasing secularization, churches, Christian traditions, and holidays remain woven into Norwegian culture. Norwegians also have an unusually strong connection to their history. They celebrate their Constitution Day on May 17 with enormous pride. Families wear traditional bunads passed down through generations. Viking history isn't treated as something embarrassing to erase. It's part of the nation's story. Conservatives often talk about stewardship, and Norway is a fascinating example. When oil was discovered in the North Sea, the country didn't simply spend every dollar. It created what is now the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, worth well over $1.5 trillion. Instead of treating natural resources as a short-term windfall, they invested them for future generations. The country also has a deep outdoor culture. Hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, and cabin life remain part of everyday Norwegian identity. Families spend weekends in the mountains instead of shopping malls. Children grow up learning self-reliance and respect for nature. Perhaps most importantly, Norway has maintained a remarkably strong sense of national identity for a country of just over 5.5 million people. They know their history. They preserve their traditions. They celebrate their heroes. They teach their children where they came from. No country is perfect, and American conservatives would disagree with Norway on plenty of modern political issues. But if you strip away today's gotchas and look at the foundations, Norway demonstrates that a nation with strong historical roots, a shared culture, pride in its heritage, and a long Christian tradition can build one of the most stable and prosperous societies in Europe. America is a people, not an idea, not a marketplace, and certainly not a “creedal nation.” The modern absurdity of the “creedal nation” thesis, endlessly repeated by hostile elites and the managerial class, including people like Neil Gorsuch, rests upon the belief that America is fundamentally held together not by a continuous historical people, but by adherence to abstract constitutional propositions. A constitution is not a mystical tablet suspended above history, nor a set of abstract propositions existing independently of the people, and thus the civilization, that produced them. It is the political expression of a particular people shaped by a continuous cultural inheritance and a shared conception of legitimacy. The American constitutional system did not emerge from universal abstractions floating in a vacuum; it arose from a distinct Anglo-American founding population and the cultural hegemony it established, rooted within the broader continuity of the European peoples who settled and shaped the early republic. Their understanding of liberty and sovereignty had already been formed long before the Declaration of Independence gave formal expression to those assumptions. The American founding was not the birth of an abstract creed for all mankind, but the formalization of a political order already embodied within a particular civilization and the people from whom it emerged. Once that continuity is severed, once the founding people for whom the constitution served as a reflection of their own character begin to fade from history or disappear altogether, constitutional interpretation becomes increasingly unstable, because the text remains while the community that once gave it coherence gradually recedes from existence. The words survive, yet their meaning shifts according to the assumptions of those interpreting them. “Liberty,” “equality,” “rights,” and even citizenship itself become endlessly elastic concepts, detached from the framework that once constrained them. Under such conditions, the creed ceases to function as a real foundation and instead becomes a rhetorical instrument through which competing factions impose their own political preferences while cloaking them in the language of constitutional inevitability. The constitution itself slowly ceases to function as an inheritance and instead becomes a battleground over who possesses the authority to redefine the nation. This is the contradiction at the center of the “creedal nation” thesis. A creed cannot sustain a fixed national meaning once severed from the people who produced it. If the White population from which the constitutional order emerged is transformed beyond recognition or disappears altogether, then the creed itself becomes untethered from any stable interpretation. The constitutional language remains, but its meaning shifts with each successive population interpreting it through different assumptions about society and legitimacy. Under such conditions, the nation no longer possesses a stable constitutional identity, because the historical community from which that identity emerged no longer exists in the same civilizational sense. What remains is not fidelity to a permanent constitutional inheritance, but an endless struggle over the power to redefine the nation itself.

Here we go again… Christopher C. Cuomo’s comments in this video regarding Kamala Harris, where he demeaningly referred to her as “Black female Jesus” and condescendingly referred to Black people as “you people,” reflect a pattern of racist rhetoric by the former anchor fired by CNN. He previously made a claim about being “Black on the inside” and even equated the term “Fredo” with the N-word. His reckless banter showcases a disturbing ignorance of the weight that racial language carries in America. His attempt to diminish the significance of Black leadership by mocking Harris as though her rise to become the vice president and nomination for president are superficial phenomenoms, rather than the result of hard-earned success in a country built on systemic racial inequities, is unacceptable. His thoughtless comments perpetuate harmful stereotypes about Black leaders, dehumanize their achievements, and trivialize the faith and support the Black community places in its representatives. For Cuomo to reduce Kamala Harris’ historic role to a caricature demonstrates his continued lack of respect for the Black community and its struggles. It is this kind of casual racism, cloaked in so-called political commentary, that fans the flames of division and undermines the progress we are fighting for. We cannot allow prominent voices to diminish the significance of Black leadership, nor can we stay silent when racially insensitive rhetoric is used to belittle our community. Chris Cuomo needs to recognize the damage his words cause and issue a public apology, not only to Kamala Harris but to the Black community as a whole. Garden City and Oasis, have all suffered the vagaries of a dysfunctional city and economy. There are probably many people who would want to come have a daiquiri at one of its eateries. 3 factors: 1. No one who lives in the suburbia & has braved Kampala's hellish traffic for 5 days of work wants to voluntarily subject themselves to the same over the weekend. 2. The rise of the suburban strip/mini malls. You can get a Fraine Supermarket with similar stuff as those stocked in Garden City's supermarkets in Bulindo. The liquor stores are numerous and Oak Cafe offers better culinary delights than most of the over hyped eateries here. The same is replicated in Muyenga. Kyengera. Bulenga, etc. 3. Economic downturn and consumer rationality. As it becomes clear that there's no free lunch and people must work for everything, spending and lifestyle decisions are ruminated upon with care and the result is the rent rates in some of these ancient structures do not make any more sense. Formulization (URA and others want their pound of flesh) means the businesses that could operate therefrom also look at the overheads more critically and make the rational decisions to either go online or to cheaper strip malls next to their clientele or even build their own premises. As earlier stated, Kampala's horrible transportation infrastructure means there are many unintended consequences. Why risk your IST with suspension problems when CJ's could deliver to Kitintale? Less footfall for anchor tenants such as supermarkets and the other smaller establishments will mean more closures.

Islam is not a religion and it’s not compatible with a Constitutional Republic. The foundation of Islam is Jihad. Jihad is Arabic for “struggle” or “striving.” Its goal is to build a just society and defend Islam. Their definition of justice does not include the modern western ideals of justice that we would embrace. Their idea of justice is living under Sharia law. “Shokunin Spirit” & Trading Last year, while traveling, I saw a Japanese tour bus driver sitting in front of the wheels, carefully polishing them. At that moment, I understood why Japanese taxis and buses are always spotless and shining. That’s when I truly understood what “shokunin spirit” is all about—the dedication to excellence. I used to encourage people to aim for "financial freedom" or "F.I.R.E." as their goal when learning investing and trading. But in recent years, I’ve realized this approach is completely wrong because it puts the cart before the horse. Investing and trading are not easy. It takes more than just a few years to see results. It’s only those with a craftsman’s mindset—who are willing to constantly learn, refine their skills, and embrace challenges without focusing on immediate rewards—who have the best chance of succeeding.
