THE ULTIMATE SET UP I believe this is the best set up move that a player can have. I call it a slide out… where the player with the ball is faced up to the defender, they slide laterally (slightly downhill) to move the defender, the ball hangs in their pocket, then they read the defender and can SHOOT, DROP N DRIVE, or COUNTER N DRIVE

TYLRR HEINEMAN WITH FASTEST AVERAGE TRANSFER IN MLB This CS was .50 with a pop time of 1.86 & throwing velo of 75.8 Contrary to popular opinion, he does not catch the ball deep & take it up out of his glove. This is true of most all the better throwers, especially those with quick transfers. WHAT THE BEST DO 1) They make 1st contact close to full extension with the glove retreating into scap load as they are catching the pitch. This makes for a more rhythmic & tension free load. They do not catch the ball deep close to their chest protector. 2) The ball & glove separation occurs at the sternum or slightly below. 3) The ball is deflected/dropped/exchanged down out of the glove in to an open & supinated hand & not ripped up out out of the glove to a position behind the head.

Don’t “Lose Space.” Watch how the pelvis stays against the line through contact. This helps create/maintain room for the hitter’s arms to swing down the line of the pitch. If the hitter stands up and the pelvis moves towards the plate, it reduces room for the back elbow.

I want parents to really think about this. Imagine paying good money for lessons because you care about your daughter’s long-term development… and the first thing you’re told is that “swinging down isn’t correct.” Instead it’s barrel depth, elite path, and swinging up because “that’s what the pros do.” That’s where development goes backwards. Most young athletes aren’t broken they’re underdeveloped in movement. They don’t understand shoulder angles, how to get on top of the ball, situational hitting, or how the body actually organizes a swing. That’s not their fault. That’s instruction skipping steps. In my cage, athletes do not swing up first. They have to earn the right to swing up by first owning the down. We stay at the top of the zone, learn how to find the down, and teach how the shoulders orient the swing. The up isn’t cued or forced it’s a byproduct of correct movement. What floors me is how often kids, especially in softball, are taught to swing up immediately. How do you start middle-down and swing up in a sport where the ball is traveling on an upward plane? It makes no sense. Baseball and softball mechanics are the same the body doesn’t change. But instruction must start differently because pitch plane is different. Baseball breaks down. Softball rise spins up. If a softball hitter can’t control the down out front, they’ll never handle elite rise. Once control is there, the femur turns down, the torso gets pulled up, and the natural up shows itself. No forcing. No manipulation. I can post videos like this all day. I’m not teaching a “style.” I’m teaching how the body is designed to move. I’m demanding because parents invest real time and money, and I won’t waste either. This is honestly maybe the worst play calling sequence I’ve ever seen from the 1 yard line. - Inside Zone with everybody inside trying to run at Vita Vea - Double Move from the 1 on a ball that we have seen CJ not throw that effectively in the past - Sprint rollout to the left inside the DE when Tampa has 4 players to essentially cover 3 What a disaster.

I came across this clip of Carlos Alcaraz doing this simple but effective drill to help with his ball toss when serving It immediately made me think about how these amazing players in ANY sport don't skip the basics I see it everyday with golf, the recreational golfer isn't willing to do the smallest, most basic things in order to help themselves acheive their goals They say they want one thing but their actions don't show they will achieve it Golfers always want to hit driver as hard as they can, they skip the importance of setting up to the ball correctly, they don't like changing their terrible grip because it "feels weird" Yet the best tennis player on the planet is working on his ball toss in order to ensure he can serve the ball to the best of his abilities It's these 1% efforts that can help you achieve exactly what you want. Don't skip them & when a coach asks you to do them, there's a reason we want you to listen and do them. They are important
