Today at the Eko Amore Gardens in Lekki, we marked the 2026 Tree Planting Day with a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to a greener and more climate resilient Lagos. I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, along with the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, our Tree Champions, and community leaders. The theme for this year, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” speaks directly to the fact that environmental stewardship is a duty we all share. Tree planting is not a ceremonial event, it is a strategic environmental intervention and one of the simplest, most effective nature based solutions to combat extreme weather, flooding, biodiversity loss, and rising temperatures. The Governor charged all Lagosians to not only plant trees but to nurture them to maturity, and he set a clear target of 20,000 trees for this year. As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, health, and a lasting legacy for generations to come. This is how we build a #CleanerLagos and a truly #GreaterLagos.

Apart from this humongous feat, what was equally interesting was how the awareness drive was carried out to encourage people to participate in the mega event. Instead of relying only on traditional posters or announcements, there were nukkad nataks and folk artists performing with dhol and manjira at bus stands and busy street corners, explaining why planting trees matter and what the campaign is all about. A smart way to spread awareness because most people don't read govt notifications or follow every campaign on social media, but they'll stop for a street performance. Someone waiting for a bus is far more likely to remember a simple message delivered through folk music than another poster or hashtag. Planting crores of saplings is one part of the effort. Getting ordinary people to understand why trees matter and feel connected to the campaign is just as important. Using local artists for that was a thoughtful and effective approach.

From 15 June to 15 September 2026, malls across Dubai will open daily for walking, running, and a range of sports activities. Open to all, the initiative aims to encourage a healthier, more active lifestyle by making fitness accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We must all be aware of how important trees are — for people, animals, birds, nature, water, and the environment itself. I believe everyone should plant at least one tree for the sake of future generations, to help keep our environment balanced. So far, I’ve planted around 7,000–8,000 trees and donated lakhs of seeds free of cost. I collect seeds myself, prepare saplings, and distribute them across Maharashtra and India. Planting trees is easy, but keeping them alive is difficult in extreme weather. My work has been recognised by NGOs and even the Forest Department, which honoured me. I also started an initiative: instead of giving gifts or social media greetings, people should give seeds or saplings. Over the past 10 years, I’ve given seeds free of cost, and I believe that even if half are planted seriously, they will benefit the environment and future generations..."

Held first meeting with Resident Welfare Associations(RWAs) and prominent citizens of Phase 11, #Mohali along with DIG Rupnagar Range Police and SSP Mohali, actively listening to their concerns & announced key measures to address issues, including an increase of 200 police personnel in district SAS Nagar. Seniors citizens go to Court for demolition of Illegal PG within their community. 2. Court orders demolition - July 2025 3. BBMP issues notice for demolition - August 2025 4. No demolition happens till Today after 8 months. 5. Few other illegal PG gets built. 6. Community compound wall gets demolished - despite a stay from court 6. GBA East remain silent 7. GBA issues notice to the complainants. Questions 1. Who all took bribe to violate court order? 2. 8 months needed for demolition and follow court order? 3. Yesterday, I delivered my first speech in Parliament, known as a Maiden Speech. ❤️ I expressed my pride in representing Leeds North West—a region rich in history, vibrant communities, and a strong Yorkshire spirit. 🎖️ I highlighted Leeds North West's incredible legacy, from historic landmarks like Otley Chevin to thriving businesses such as Abraham Moons and EMIS, all contributing to both local and national success. 🎡 I celebrated our community events, including the Guiseley Festival, Yeadon Carnival, and Rawdon Summer Gala, which showcase the strength of our Yorkshire pride and community spirit. 🎉 I honoured the amazing people who make Leeds North West special, including our young students, local groups like Horsforth Shed and Otley 2030, and Brian Firth, the founder of Public Access Defibrillators UK. 🌱 I emphasised my determination to tackle the local issues my constituents have raised with me, whether it’s addressing climate change, improving mental health, or supporting our local businesses—all aimed at creating a greener, healthier future. 👂 Finally, I promised to listen, learn, and act—committed to championing Yorkshire’s values and delivering for our community with joy and determination.
