Let me be the controversial one here. I don't hate the live action. I've watched it a few times. It's really not all that bad. It looks pretty dang good. Most people still have that " WAAAAAAAAHH! SCARLETT JOHANNSEN IS IN MY ANIME MOVIE!" shit going.

Iconic or ironic? The anime Ghost in the Shell served visionary cyberpunk aesthetics decades ago, and the live-action just tried to catch up!
Live action was bad. That anime is perfection

The Hollywood version was pure trash. They took a 120 IQ movie and made it into a 80 IQ movie.

The anime has action that's more readable because the character is wearing a red shirt. The live action version more get lost in the muted colors.
Predictably lost the sauce in live action.
