Ghostty Devlog 006, speed edition 🚀. An intro to SIMD, clever unicode lookup algorithms, and CSI parsing fast-paths all in order to make Ghostty wicked fast. The video below compares the plain-text throughput of Ghostty to another popular macOS terminal. Note that this video only showcases one particular type... show more

Cursor position and color uniforms are now available to custom shaders in Ghostty, enabling cursor animations (and other effects). Video below is a rough demo of something simple. Can't wait to see what the custom shader community does with this. :) Docs:

Even with close confirmation I sometimes close my terminal and think "OH FUCK NO." Coming soon to Ghostty, you can undo that. 🥰 (Technical details: we keep the terminal running for a configurable time in the background before terminating for real, similar to email undo send). (macOS only for now, AppKit APIs provide a nice undo manager implementation that eases this quite a bit. I still have to do research on GTK for Linux.)

Look at the speed at which this model generates video! Imagine a chat interface that uses real-time video streaming to talk to us instead of text. We are getting close!

Claude Mobile starts the idea... Ghostty finishes it I basically use Claude Mobile as a notepad now. Whenever something comes to mind, I open the app, pick a repo, and ask Claude to start exploring. Then I just let it run while I go on with my day. Later I jump into Claude Desktop and I’m right back in the same session, with context, structure, and a clearer shape of the idea. I tweak a few things to set up the coding phase. Finally, one click to Ghostty (video), open a couple of worktrees, and start working on the PR. IMPORTANT: when you move to Ghostty, it must be the exact same repo you started on mobile, otherwise the --teleport command will fail

Video Fact of the Day: The M1 Challenger Tank can accelerate from 0-717.5mph in just 8.0085secs and on to a top speed of 800.85 (Mack 71.75), so fast that it disappears into a puff of smoke! Filmed from a Canberra

There is a "flash" bug in the One UI 7 Beta1 animation. In fact, there are at least three versions of this problem. Samsung seems to have not found it, so it has not been solved. You only need to open two apps in succession a little quickly (not particularly fast)，You will see a quick flicker in the picture. The first video is played at normal speed, and you can see a flash picture. The second video is a slow video, and you can see the moment when the soul of a page flashes in the ninth second. I call it the One UI 7 haunted event.

Grok video is getting really good at photorealistic outputs. IMO, this is one of the hardest styles to nail because our brains are so attuned to anything that looks "wrong." And the speed of progress here is kind of unreal.

🇨🇳Teleportation isn't possible yet, and if an aircraft accelerates that fast, it would instantly kill the pilot due to extreme G-forces. So the question is — is this video real, or AI-generated? Because how could a pilot survive such speed?

traders, very soon I will make your life easier and help you multiply your capital a terminal with scalping mode is no longer a dream, but a reality that I have already taken on this terminal promises to break all boundaries and provide more opportunities for trading what I want to implement: > scalping mode: you will be able to trade lightning fast, open orders, and close them, just like in real scalp terminals > built-in indicators: everything in one place, no need to go anywhere > unique UI: To be honest, I'm tired of the boring UIs of other terminals, I'll make it really modern these are just the beginnings, but the most important part is done - I've started maybe you wanna try this? pre-alpha soon...

First sighting of a Waymo in the wild in London. Immediately noticed how many drivers are impatient and aggressive when sitting behind a vehicle that is programmed to abide by the speed limit.

And when I say highball they HAD to highball to make thjs fight interesting lmao First cherry picking Metal’s scales, ignoring the whole purpose of him being a copy of sonic, therefore ignoring all of Sonic’s scaling post forces, (not even counting idw and frontiers), keeping him lowballed in some areas The highball of Cell’s speed is laughable, like an explosion speed isn’t comparable to mobility speed, and of course they HAD to use the filler goku traveling to hell to make it even arguable lmao, ignoring all the modern sonic speed feats and keeping it very toned down Overall the results were funny since they couldn’t just show how one sided it truly was, and of course DA cooked with the animations, good luck to him and his future projects

One of the many things that make the Princess of Wales dufferent from Madame Moonbump is her awareness of and concern for others. In the video clip we see Catherine suggesting to the group that they all go inside to get out of the rain, and she starts to lead them in. But she stops and looks over her right shoulder and sees another group of kids with no umbrellas! At the end of the clip she heads over to them to help other adults shelter the children, resulting in such lovely photos such as the one below. 🥰

How fast is Chandler Simpson? Well here he is playing college baseball and tagging from second base/scoring on a routine fly out to the center fielder. Even if the CFer did a nonchalant throw to the cut off, this is still crazy to have that type of speed and score on sometime so routine.

I’m trying to get this intersection fixed on Market in the Castro in front of Bar 49. I shot this video yesterday while walking to dinner. Anytime of day you can see cars aggressively almost hitting people in the crosswalk. This is because this intersection is so wide that, for one of the right turns on green, you can’t see the pedestrian crosswalk signal at all and you have time to speed up heading towards this crosswalk. Many of these drivers assume you are jaywalking even though you have 20 seconds left to walk. This leads to some frequent aggressive behavior and near misses with pedestrians. The drivers assume this configuration wouldn’t have the crosswalk active at that time - and I agree that it shouldn’t be.

Speed control being removed from FSD is a hot topic, and I often get roasted for not bringing it up more. Truthfully a lot of the time the lack of a user-defined max speed isn’t that big of a problem - but it still is 100% a problem. Last weekend we went to the island and the car misread the speed limits 90% of the time. The issue was when we were driving around the campsite and the speed limit was 15kmh and FSD thought it was 40kmh. So in that situation even being in sloth mode doesn’t fix the problem with the car driving too fast. Similar issue - two days ago we had a really bad rain storm and even in sloth FSD was trying to go 100kmh on the highway. Almost every other car was driving closer to 80kmh but I couldn’t force the car to drive that slow - so instead we were one of the fastest cars on the road (in the sloth speed profile) and I had to disengage and drive myself since the speeds weren’t appropriate for the conditions. I know Tesla knows about this - but I just think it’s worth bringing up 🤷‍♂️ I really really really hope v15 can fix issues like this. Also please stop speeding in school zones.

A lot of you are thinking that the spring which we will supply to Prakash Dadlani will be produced at the speed of 1304 ppm. That’s not true. All springs are not made on one kind of machine. The CNC machine we built that produces springs up to 1304 ppm manufactures compression springs. Whereas, the springs for Prakash bhai will be made on one of our 12-axis CNC wire forming machine. And on this the speed is much slower but it has flexibility to produce a number of different kinds of springs and wire forms. The design, type, materials, wire diameter and profile, features and precision of the springs defines what kind of machine will be used. It’s not one machine that does it all. This video is of that springs being manufactured on our other CNC machine. Also, the operator is setting the spring up that is why he is using his hands. Once it’s in production, there’s a crate underneath the machine for the springs.

Another video of public mocking and wondering that people are able to play their music of TMC chor song in Kalighat, home of Mamata. Important thing to note is the street in that area is completely broken. She didn’t even take care of her own area.

For years they have talked about high speed trains here in America, yet we have nothing like Japan or Italy has. Los Angeles to San Francisco, Dallas to Houston, Chicago to Indianapolis, and then to Cincinnati in a short time. Imagine the traveling convenience and imagine the possibilities for more employment opportunities. We are the leader of the free world, we have some of the top minds in the world and have the technology to do so. Sad that America fails and falls way behind other countries in so many things like a high speed rail system, the health industry and the school system.

If you play soccer and lacrosse you already know that acceleration and top end speed are vital to performance. However, just being fast in 5-40 yards in a straight line is not enough. Weaving. Curving. Dodging. Rotating etc.. are all other factors that must be considered. Being fast on a curve/angle is vital to performance. Be sure to train the edges!
