Gladiator 2 might be the most unnecessary sequel ever made. The plot is uninteresting, the tone is nothing like the original, and Paul Mescal simply doesn’t fit. Russell Crowe said: “It is example of people in that engine room not understanding what made first one special.”

Gladiator 2 was not only a bad movie, it also retroactively ruined russell crowe's character by having him cheat on his wife and screw his best friends wife. The child is secretly his, the kid was the same age as russel's son and russel crowe said her husband was like a brother to him. I wish that movie was never made.

Gladiator 2 is merely a nice movie, one of those movies that you only watch once. Never to be compared with the original.

Gladiator 2 is one of those sequels that actively harms what came before it. Some others that come to mind: Alien 3 Toy Story 4 Pacific Rim Uprising

Fully directed by Ridley Scott. After Napoleon, Unnecessary Alien pre and midquels, and this shit, Ridley Scott is not allowed to touch his previous franchises or historical epics. Go make another Martian.

I thought it was a truly epic film. Had the fortune of seeing it twice in theaters. It’s not as good as the first film, but I still love it a great deal. Out of the ninety films I saw in 2024, it took third place.

I will never watch this movie. The only version of Gladiator I want to remember is the original.

Yes! Paul Mescal just grated on my nerves the whole way. Not a shred of the punching up pugnacity of Russell Crowe, 100% predestined hero vibe from start to finish.

It was a disgrace. With all respect, the lead had no business to be the lead. And Denzel was ill cast. Boat scene in the coliseum? Embarrassing.

I don't know why people keep referring to Ridley Scott as a master filmaker. Gladiator 2 is an insult to cinema.

But here's the real question... Did those who complained about the movie being unnecessary actually watch it? I bet most of them did! They can't live without their fix. As long as people keep watching their garbage, nothing will ever change.

@VortexGerhard Everything about Gladiator 2 is stupid and unnecessary, a waste of time and data storage for the studio. It is so stupid (not even just simply bad) that I am still laughing hard about many of its elements, when I think about the film. Russel Crowe got it absolutely correct here.

When I saw the sharks in The Coliseum, my first thought was they should have had Henry Winkler jump over them in a motorcycle jacket. Now THAT would have made a statement.

IMO , and no one is asking, but, they should’ve not tied it tot he first. So much Roman history to use and they kinda dropped the ball.

In Gladiator’s sequel Ridley should have just opted for a more traditional approach borrowing that epic chariot race from Ben-Hur . . . like George Lucas did Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace in the epic pod race instead of sharks “IN” the Colosseum.

I love the original. One of the finest movies ever made. Gladiator II is completely forgettable with zero interesting narrative and an interesting protagonist

Crowe is right. The original was brilliant! The 2nd was just a good movie, and not remotely close to the greatness of the original. Let's face it, we never needed a 2nd movie.

Paul Mescal was pretty bad in this. He looked like he was about to laugh in some serious scenes. No real screen presence at all.

I enjoyed it. I thought it was well done.

Using the same harmonizing soundtrack as last is a clear signed they just didn't need to do this. Plus, it's literally a forgettable film.

Paul Mescal was a complete miscast and the only time the plot was interesting was Connie Nielsen and Pedro Pascal that story felt like a good continuation of the first movie but the random son stuff really sucked

I mean, the live action Moana seems like the most unnecessary movie ever created. The original is only 10 years old.

I quit watching Gladiator 2 within 3 minutes. Aftter seeing a woman gearing up as an archer and showing up for battle alongside the men I knew it was made for Our Modern Audience.
