Goodbye, Unity! Thank you for everything. After four years of solo development, I successfully ported Into the Void from Unity to a custom engine (INVALEngine) over seven months, fixing severe legacy code mess and massive lag/framerate drops. #indiegame #gamedev

Full Changes:

The fuck you mean you reduced the size to 70 megabytes

building your own engine just to spite unity is psychotic behavior respect. we barely survived getting Warm out on steam and we used pre-made tools like cowards

Are you going to update the demo by any chance I can’t download it anymore

Yes, really soon

This game looks extremely fun! I simply love boomer shooter games, so I'll keep my eyes on this one and follow the development 👀

King shit

What api are you using?

D3D11

congratulations!

You’re an absolute mad lad.

Congrats on building your own game engine. I'm currently building my very own too, with a full set of custom tools. I'm only a few weeks in, but I have the very basic of the rendering done. Next step is finishing the renderer and then porting everything to low level because FUCK

That is an enormous solo milestone. The frame-rate difference is striking. What took the most time in the port: replacing engine systems or cleaning up the old game code?

Holy fuck wow That’s sick, congrats!!

Love the aesthetic for relatable reasons 😅 gonna wishlist

W

That's insane, congrats 🤴

What made u wanna go into custom engines and how is it working with it? Looks sick.

congrats! not an easy task

Dang, nice job

that is wild i remember playing the demo and the changes are like noticeable huh crazy stuff

Normally I'd say you're insane to write your own engine and port a game that's already finished (?) .. but .. wow. Good work.

What was the decision for the switch

how do you make your own damn engine

Missed opportunity to name it The Void Engine 😔

YOOOO CONGRATS

That’s a huge solo-dev move. What was the worst Unity gremlin you had to chase during the port? 😅

Looks sick! Give me 90s Doom vibes somehow. When release?

Yeah unity sucks

Congrats and well done!

This looks amazing 🤩

What tech did you use?

Seven months to move four years of work is a serious undertaking. What was the nastiest thing to preserve: game feel, existing content, or your sanity?

70mb is fucking insane man

Any plans for consoles?

What made you decide to make the switch?
