Gun Force II (1994) by Irem is often called the missing link between run-and-gun classics and Metal Slug. Several of its developers would later form Nazca, and you can already see the DNA: huge sprites, vehicle hijacking, explosive action, and beautifully animated madness.

SUNSET RIDERS (Konami, 1991) 🎧🔊An arcade hit that dominated the run and gun genre until Metal Slug. The characters are memorable, specially Cormano Wild, and the music is beautiful (a Konami Kukeiha Club vinyl with the OST can be found on Amazon). Ported to SNES and MD later.

GunForce II was still in development when the company ran into financial trouble, so the game was never fully polished. As a result, there’s a noticeable difference in quality between the early and later stages. When the company went bankrupt, most of the core developers moved to SNK, where they went on to create Metal Slug. That’s why playing GunForce II feels so much like playing Metal Slug. Many of the series’ signature elements were already there—an impressive variety of weapons and vehicles, gorgeous pixel art, and spectacular large-scale boss battles. Without GunForce II, it’s hard to imagine Metal Slug becoming the legendary game it is today. Like its predecessor, GunForce II was never ported to home consoles and wasn’t widely distributed in arcades, so it remained relatively unknown for many years. Fortunately, it was finally re-released a few years ago as part of the Irem Collection, giving this hidden gem the recognition it deserved.

After Metal Slug 2, the reason X came out before 3 was because Metal Slug 2 had serious optimization issues, causing heavy slowdown during gameplay. So SNK decided to release an optimized version based on Metal Slug 2 first. That said, it wasn’t exactly the same game. They changed things like switching between daytime and nighttime backgrounds to create a different atmosphere, and even brought in some weapons that would later appear in Metal Slug 3. The controls were also improved, showing that a lot of care went into refining the experience. When you actually play it, you can clearly feel that the slowdown is significantly reduced compared to Metal Slug 2. Because of that, Metal Slug X became a very popular title alongside Metal Slug 3.

I don't know how many people had a Neo Geo back in the day... maybe one out of 100,000? But what I do remember is playing Metal Slug - which is now 30 years old and still looks absolutely incredible - at my friend's house, who for some miraculous reason had one of those otherworldly consoles. It's a truly iconic run-and-gun arcade masterpiece which was later ported to the Neo Geo. You control soldiers Marco and Tarma, hijack powerful vehicles like the SV-001 tank, and blast through rebels led by General Morden with fluid animation, a bit of humor, and super-intense action. Many, many coins went into this beauty at the arcades.

GUN SHOT FLASH caught behind blue tent behind Charlie on VIDEO and the SOUND of a 2ND GUN SHOT captured on audio. Does this PROVE the 2ND SHOOTER theory? You have to see this. This could be a huge breakthrough. You can actual see the gun shot flash coming out of a barrel of some sort from BEHIND Charlie's tent. Right after the FIRST shot is seen and caught on video, when you slow down the footage, you can actually hear TWO SEPERATE GUN SHOTS. There is ANOTHER gun shot right after the FIRST one, which the SOUND of it is caught on the camera's audio. You can't deny that this is the FLASH of a gun shot seen clearly on video coming from behind that blue tent. This needs to be absolutely confirmed because this could be a huge break through confirming a potential location of one shooter behind the blue tent and confirming the existence of a 2nd SHOOTER somewhere else.
