Students from various backgrounds came out in support of Professor Doolla and stood in solidarity with him. According to the IIT administration, the student was allegedly caught cheating by Professor Doolla. My view: If these allegations are true, Professor Doolla should be reinstated and compensated.

For the last three days, IIT Bombay students were adamant that Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla must be suspended. The administration finally suspended him, and now the same students have come up with a new demand: terminate him. What did Prof. Doolla actually do? He stopped a student from cheating during an examination. Three days of demanding suspension, suspension finally happens, and now they want termination. At this rate, after termination, don’t be surprised if the next demand is to hang the professor for stopping cheating in an exam.

Some IIT Bombay students are now openly saying that casteism had nothing to do with Sahil Wakode’s suicide. One student even said that Professor Suryanarayana Doolla should never have been suspended. When a Lokmat reporter kept pushing the caste angle, the student got angry and said, "Nothing like this happens at IIT Bombay." His point was clear: Sahil was caught cheating, so of course the professor would scold him. His death is tragic, but that doesn’t mean the professor was at fault.
