Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida is seeing an increase in electric dirt bikes, also called “e-motos”, being ridden in neighborhoods and on public roads. E-Bike vs. Electric Dirt Bike or E-Moto ✅ E-Bike: • Has pedals with electric assist • Designed for roads, bike paths, and shared spaces • Typically, lower speeds and requires less protective gear • Less than 750 watts • Can travel 28 mph or less depending on class of bike • Classified as a bicycle 🚫 Electric Dirt Bike / E-Moto: • All throttle • Higher power and higher speeds • Built for off-road terrain only • Requires full protective gear • 750 watts or more • Can travel up to 70 mph • Classified as a motor vehicle ➡️ NOT legal on streets or sidewalks Our goal is education and safety. Y'all, we need to talk about e-bikes, dirt bikes and off-road vehicles. A group of our PAR officers were working proactive patrol a few weeks back when they were alerted to a group of people on off-road dirt bikes, e-bikes and four wheelers traveling on East Colfax. Our officers found the riders and observed them doing wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic and quite literally ignoring any and all traffic laws. The group continued down Colfax, but officers lost sight of them due to their erratic driving. Our Real Time Information Center used city cameras to help track the riders. They were seen continuing to drive recklessly. The group eventually pulled into a gas station; unaware we were hot on their trail. When officers pulled in with their lights activated, the group ran. Five got away. One did not. 30-year-old Noel Loya Payan was arrested at the gas station without further incident. He is facing charges including careless driving, obstruction, prohibited use of an off-highway vehicle on a public roadway, weaving and failure to obey traffic signals. He also had a warrant out of Northglenn. This time it was adults treating our streets like their personal playground. But more often than not, it is juveniles. Teenagers riding vehicles they should not be operating and doing so recklessly on busy roads. It’s not just a nuisance to other drivers, it’s also illegal. Aurora city code already prohibits off highway vehicles like dirt bikes from being used on any public roads, trails, sidewalks or parks within city limits. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow minors to ride them in the city can face a minimum $250 fine. Whether you're 15 or 30, our streets are not a racetrack. Ride responsibly. My take on this is I feel more officers should take the time to educate the E-bike riders and let them know the consequences of riding in the street and why it’s illegal to do so. So much misinformation about them is out there and I know most kids are gonna do it anyways because they don’t care but it could stop some from doing it. This officer explains to him what’s going to happen to them if they keep riding the E-bikes in the street. This gives them fair warning in advance that they are going to be ticketed and have their bikes impounded. Many parents don’t pay attention to what their kids do until it affects their pockets. People are criticizing the police for targeting them and labeling them a nuisance. If I saw a group of 30 bikes blocking the road and acting reckless, I would be concerned as well. I feel this officer was being patient and fair to him, do you think the police are overreacting?

The neighbors called the cops because they were doing some unsafe tricks and swarming around cars causing a dangerous situation where someone could possibly hit them. First time the officer gave him a warning, he defiantly and falsely claimed it was street legal and then proceeded to do a stunt in front of the officer before riding off. After one month, the RESET Center has seen more than 500 admissions, with nearly one-third accepting care and treatment. It’s also helping officers get back on the street in under 20 minutes instead of spending hours on the jail booking process. This progress is the result of relentless work by outreach teams, law enforcement officers, and healthcare workers who are helping connect people to services while keeping public spaces safe and clean. We still have more work to do. AN ATTACK OF COUNTY OFFICERS! It is the highest level of impunity for anyone to attack officers of the Nairobi City County Government while they are lawfully discharging their duties. Earlier today, our officers who went to remove an illegal structure that was blocking a public road were violently attacked and beaten by mobilized goons behaving like criminals. As a result, four of our officers are currently being treated in hospital after sustaining serious head injuries. This kind of barbaric act is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Let it also go on record that order and dignity cannot be compromised. Whenever we respond to complaints from members of the public, the same public must not turn against the very officers mandated to protect and serve them. We cannot live in a county where everyone believes the law should bend to their will. Let it be clearly understood assaulting county officers on duty is a grave offence, and we shall ensure that those who mobilized, aided, or participated in this attack are held fully accountable before the law. We will not allow a few lawless individuals to intimidate or harm officers who are working tirelessly to restore order and uphold the rule of law in our city. Our officers deserve respect, safety, and protection as they serve the people of Nairobi with dedication. An attack on one officer is an attack on the entire County Government of Nairobi, and we shall revisit this matter firmly to ensure justice is done.
