Reposting here: To clarify any confusion, I aim for this game to become an entirely original creation with unique assets and ideas. I'm using Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 merely as a game design reference to develop the game engine. There won't be a release until all content is original.

There are no plans to support Realms or connect to any of Microsoft or Mojang's server. Later, this game will have completely different gameplay, textures, and other assets.

I ported my #Gamecube game engine to PC, and even in its unoptimized state, it runs at 60 FPS with a minimum render distance of 64 chunks on my laptop -- double the maximum render distance of Minecraft: Java Edition. Powerful hardware won't be necessary for the game to run smoothly at long render distances. The PC port will streamline the debugging process, allowing for faster improvements across all platforms, including the Gamecube and #Dreamcast, and Wii. #indiegamedev #gamedev

I've been mostly working on the internal systems lately for my #Dreamcast engine. The PC port gave me the debugging tools I needed to improve complex systems like the memory manager. • Audio is now working on the Dreamcast version • The renderer runs 20% faster on the Dreamcast • Heap allocation is 300% faster on average and 200% faster on worst case. While this had minimal impact on performance for the #Gamecube and PC versions, it was a significant bottleneck on the Dreamcast. • Increased real-time heap defragmentation throughput by using a new multi-regional heap structure, which also sets the foundation for DRAM bank-aware memory allocation. There's still plenty of room for more optimizations in Meese Engine. In fact, some optimizations found in Minecraft have yet to be implemented in this engine! #retrogamedev #indiegamedev

More internal optimizations on my #Dreamcast and #Gamecube game engine: • 2D Perlin noise generation is now 67% faster (59 cycles per sample) • 3D Perlin noise generation is now 40% faster (97 cycles per sample) • Further optimized worst-case heap allocations, bringing the total improvement to 40x since before my last post (yeah, allocations were that inefficient for a while) Perlin noise generation is one of the game's most resource-intensive functions. Since the Dreamcast doesn't support conventional SIMD, I optimized Perlin noise using purely scalar code. The Dreamcast's SIMD capabilities are mainly tailored for graphics, with matrix-vector multiplication and dot product being the only SIMD instructions available. These optimizations are invisible to the player, so in the meantime, here's an interesting spot I discovered while testing the game on the Dreamcast. #retrogaming #indiegamedev
