This is unfair to those who have worked hard to get here.

I hope the government changes course and these people aren't forced to leave. To the protestors: I hope you win.

It’s the demand and supply that matters. During COVID there was demand so they were asking for supply !!

An international student on a work permit which is going to expire soon blames Canada for the fact that she's going to have to leave despite the fact that no such guarantee is made to students or temporary workers. I should know because I came to Canada as an international student nearly 30 years ago. She and her friends are now exploring ways of how they can stay on in Canada, including applying for refugee status which will be tied up for years while their case is decided. Our immigration minister Marc Miller ᐅᑭᒫᐃᐧᐅᓃᐸᐄᐧᐤᐃᔨᐣ Mikotsikaa naively believes those whose permits are expiring are going to leave Canada voluntarily which is a joke. He should watch this video. The sense of entitlement of some of these people is astonishing. She doesn't have a legal right to stay on in Canada beyond the date her current permit expires and if she refuses to leave, she should be deported. These people are playing on white guilt, the easiest thing to exploit in Canada where people are generally naive and think everyone is well intentioned.

They entered Canada on study permits for programs that were never eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), paid high international tuition, and expected it would lead to staying permanently. Now that those applications have been refused, they’re demanding to remain. When a work permit is refused, maintained status ends. They lose the legal right to work and have a limited period to either restore their status or leave Canada. A temporary permit is exactly that: temporary. Calling it a hunger strike while continuing to eat food doesn’t create a legal right to permanent residency or change Canada’s immigration laws.

#Punjab has one of the largest student communities in #Canada. Behind every student is a family that has invested its life’s savings and made enormous sacrifices to send their children abroad in pursuit of better opportunities. Now, with the reported rejection of Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) applications, hundreds of Indian students, most of them from Punjab are facing immense distress and uncertainty as the rules have changed midway. I urge Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar to intervene and raise this matter immediately with the Canadian government. I too will be taking this issue up personally with all the Punjabi Members Of Parliament in Canada. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal units abroad have already been directed to help these children in whatever manner possible. Together, we must work on finding a fair resolution for all our honest and hardworking students. Their future should not become a casualty of changing political dynamics.

Ukrainian diplomats and the Ukrainian Canadian Community have expressed really grave concerns about that film and I do want to say I share those concerns. We have to be really clear that this is a war where there is no moral equivalency this is a war of Russian aggression this is a war where Russia is breaking international law and committing war crimes. There is very clearly good and evil in this war. Ukrainians are fighting for their sovereignty and for democracy around the world and we as a country have to be very, very clear that there can be no moral equivalency in our understanding of this conflict. We have been unequivocally clear that Canada should accept ICC jurisdiction and the decision of the International Criminal Court. While we note the comments of the Foreign Affairs minister in recognizing the ICC’s independence, we are deeply disappointed that the Canadian government did not directly state clearly that criminals like Netanyahu must face justice for their crimes, including at the ICC. To the facetious argument about moral equivalence: a dead Palestinian child should be equal to any other child. Those responsible for any human rights violations should face a court. This should not be difficult to understand.

Really inspires confidence. We’re not talking about a “complicated case” or a “sensitive file.” We’re talking about a grown adult who committed one of the most serious crimes imaginable — TWICE — against a 13-year-old. And apparently the big concern was… PR damage??? Because nothing says “responsible governance” like prioritizing optics over a child’s safety. Canada has clear laws, clear standards, and clear consequences for crimes against minors. Yet somehow, somewhere, someone decided “Let’s just… not.” How does that even happen? How do you read a case like this and think, “Hmm yes, the real issue here is not deporting him”? FCK NO!! The real issue is protecting kids — immediately, decisively, and without bureaucratic hand-wringing. This isn’t complicated: If someone is a documented threat to children, they should be dealt with through the FULL FORCE of the law — PERIOD! Not hidden in a file. Not quietly shuffled around. I talked with a man from India in downtown Red Deer about student visas, immigration fraud, refugee claims, and whether Canada should actually enforce its own rules. I started with softball questions. He told me he came here as a student, studied chemical engineering, and is now working in healthcare because that may be a better pathway to permanent residency. Then I asked him about something many Canadians have heard about: students coming here, not finishing school, working instead, and then claiming refugee status when their student visa is running out. And Albertans have every right to ask why Ottawa controls the system while our communities deal with the consequences. This is another reason I support Alberta independence. Liberal MP starts petition to allow foreign students and migrant workers facing deportation to remain in Canada Amandeep Sodhi is calling for foreign students and migrant workers facing deportation to be granted permanent residency and provided with federal aid.
