I was just testing some USD things in both #Maya and #b3d. You would think that Autodesk would do better considering the insane amount of money they make on Maya (while Blender survives on a 2 M$ budget per year).

Many Millions of poly's (strands) in a volume, old Maya 2023 and Bifrost rendering with Arnold. Old machine, real time video speed. Not sure whats going on with your test. More recent versions of Arnold in Maya have AI denoise (default) which is much quicker than this old video. Just enjoy Blender, it's cool, we use it at work alongside Maya. Don't get the fascination with what can do what, it's all 3d.

@autodesk Wow! I'm surprised. Can you try it with hundreds of meshed and lots of textures? The test I did was requiring 13GB of VRAM.

@autodesk Blender is an oasis in the desert.

@autodesk @blender attempts to adhere to the standards as written while proprietary companies attempt to capture standards and twist them in order to lock you into their software

@autodesk It’s a matter of speed here. Blender has been moving real fast. Maya on the other hand can really do better and spend that cash.

@autodesk Arnold have imagers(You can see it in the settings of render view or at the bottom of arnold render settings), there you can add oidn denoise and optix too. To import USD to maya i think you should use the USD layer editor.

@autodesk It’s not going to fix the issue of the viewpoint getting testified though

@autodesk Yeah, Maya is tech and crativelly bankrupt, saying this as 20 years Maya user. I'm in the process of transitioning to Blender.

I did the switch when Blender 2.8 came out. I’ve been using Maya for 30 years and the transition wasn’t easy. You want to use industry standard settings if you want to keep using qwer keys. Now I only use Maya for UVs. Everything else, for what I do, is superior in Blender (I’m not an animator)

@autodesk Now use a proper USD platform and use Houdini

@autodesk Yeah, Houdini really handles USD better than Maya or Blender but it’s still something plugged in and not part of the core of the software. The only commercial software built from the ground up for USD is Omniverse
