I'm playing GTA V on a PS3 and its been such a fun experience. I remember when was a kid and playing this for the first time, I didn't give a damn about how BAD the framerate was during driving. I was constantly in awe by how realistic this game looked back then that the framerate wasn't something that was going to stop me from enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, this game is running on a PS3 that has 256mb of RAM and 256mb of VRAM which is some black magic itself and the fact that Rockstar Games managed to have such a massive open world game with that much traffic and NPCs running in real-time is a feat on its own.

I think we’ll see the full creative vision of GTA 6 once the PC/PS6/Xbox Helix version comes out. As stunning as Grand Theft Auto VI currently looks, its hard to believe that the game will cut some corners to optimize for the current gen hardware. But looking back at Grand Theft Auto V releasing at the end of a console lifecycle then getting the next-gen version was a night and day difference; it showed how much corners Rockstar Games had to cut in order to optimize this game and run well for PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. I believe it is the same situation with the current gen consoles, the GPUs may be powerful, especially on the PS5 Pro; there are going to be some CPU limitations with the Zen 2 architecture.

This level of traffic here is so dense that I struggle to make sense on how exactly they've made this possible on a console that has only 512MB total memory system, hell compare that to Windows 11 which averages to 5GB of RAM usage during idle and you can see how little resources Rockstar Games had working with here. If you remember, when Cyberpunk 2077 launched on PS4, Night City was practically a Ghost Town when you drove a car due to how much it would affect the framerate. Even most open-world games today don't add heavy traffic to save on resources, but GTA V is out here squeezing every last drop of my PS3 console just to add this number of vehicles for seemingly no reason all I can say is that Rockstar really knows how to push the limits of what a console can achieve and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with Grand Theft Auto 6.

One of the Grand Theft Auto V downsides was that it didn't match GTA IV in terms of euphoria ragdoll physics, in this example here you can see how easily the NPCs die when you shoot them on the foot. Part of the reason why I believe the euphoria engine was downgraded was due to the scale of GTA V and that it was designed for PS3/Xbox 360 consoles. Fast Forward a generation later, Red Dead Redemption 2 is much better compared to this, but I still prefer the one in Grand Theft Auto IV. When GTA VI comes out, perhaps we will see a more improved version of euphoria ragdoll physics which will be a mix of both GTA IV style ragdolls and Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm always blown away by the fact that Rockstar Games casually made some of the best and most realistic water physics in 2008. GTA IV is the prime example of Rockstar Games focusing heavily on bringing realistic physics in a video-game. My biggest worry regarding GTA VI is if Rockstar Games will be able to deliver a 30+ FPS mode I don’t know how I will be able to enjoy it if it is going to be strictly locked at 30FPS. I tried playing GTA V Enhanced on Fidelity Mode that runs at a locked 30FPS and my eyes simply aren’t used to this 😭
