I was delighted to visit St. Patrick’s Primary School in Dungannon to help launch their fantastic new unit for children with additional needs. It was a real pleasure to also witness the incredible energy and talent of the young people, and to see how deeply committed the staff are to supporting every pupil. Ensuring that every child with additional needs has access to proper resources and facilities is a top priority for this Executive.

They're going to imbue some magical phrase, or saying, or thing, and all of a sudden everything is going to work out for you." Yesterday I announced a new School Stabilization Team to support the SFUSD in this difficult time, and today they are getting to work. Our team will immediately begin meeting with District leadership, including the Board of Education members who are our partners in this effort. School District leaders and staff are working hard to meet these challenges, and our goal is expand their capacity and help to troubleshoot, review, validate and provide more support in the following immediate areas: • Plans around potential school closures • Budget balancing so we can retain local control • Any operational issues impacting kids today This is not a City takeover or about placing blame — this is a partnership and about finding solutions. All of us working together to deliver on what matters most: supporting our kids.

This is not the only vision for what it looks like to have politics in this country—that is so divorced from the needs and wants of everyday people. And what we are looking to show in New York City is an alternative to what has led so many to become disenchanted with the political process. We want to show that not only can government work, but it must, and that at its core, our responsibility is to working people—to ensure that we’re doing everything to make their lives easier. That has to be what drives our actions, and for too long, government has felt more like a distraction than a fulfillment of the needs of the people who’ve been left behind by the politics of today.

We visited one of the biggest social housing projects in the CBD where at least 79 illegally employed immigrants were taken in for processing by the Department of Home Affairs.
