In a recent hotfire our BE-3U engine reached more than 211,500 lbf thrust. That makes BE-3U the highest thrust-to-weight hydrogen engine in history, at more than 90! Here is the video of that test for your enjoyment.

Last week, our BE-7 team conducted another successful Thrust Chamber Assembly (TCA) test at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Test Stand 116. Our tests on an upgraded TCA bring our cumulative test time to more than 4000 seconds, and we are on track in our engine development path.

I've come to appreciate boring hotfires. Our BE-7 team recently completed a 2,500 second hotfire test at 10klbf on a development engine, setting the record for the longest-duration turbo pump-fed liquid rocket engine hotfire. This built on some of the most rigorous testing in the history of propulsion, with the previous record set by the RS-25 engine that powered the Space Shuttle. They recorded two 2,017 second tests in 1988. It's not lost on us that we're following a path those engineers blazed, and we're grateful for it. This endurance test verifies that the engine can perform beyond the nominal flight duration, meaning this engine is one step closer to being ready for flight. A Pratt & Whitney F100 turbofan is one of the most successful fighter jet engines ever built. First run was in 1972, it still powers the F-15 and F-16 more than 50 years later. Part of this testing campaign is to activate the hydrogen peroxide system that fuels our Reaction Control System, or RCS. The GS1 RCS provides 20,000 lbf thrust in any direction, allowing the first stage to reorient itself in space before re-entry and to precisely target Jacklyn in high winds during landing. To give you an idea, a single F-18 Super Hornet F414 engine provides a similar amount of thrust at 22,000 lbf, so you can see how powerful this system is. The RCS performed nominally during our NG-1 flight and successfully reoriented GS1 to within 0.5 deg of our target attitude during exo-atmospheric flight.

🌕 Tested on Earth. Bound for the Moon. The BE-7 engine for our Blue Moon MK1 lunar lander just completed acceptance testing. Two 290-second tests exposed the engine to its full range of thrust and mixture ratios to verify engine performance. The engine is now off to Florida for integration with MK1.
