In continuation of the Lagos State Taskforce clean-up enforcement operations and its commitment to rid the State of criminal elements and street urchins popularly known as Omotaku, who terrorise Lagos motorists and force them to part with their hard-earned money, especially whenever their vehicles develop mechanical faults on the road. In the course of the week, a total of 281 suspects were arrested, and all suspects have since been arraigned in court. The Chairman stated that Omotaku would soon become a thing of the past in few days. Akerele admonished Lagosians, particularly motorists, to promptly reach out to the Lagos State Taskforce whenever Omotaku or other street urchins constitute a nuisance within their vicinity, and to call 09137555111 or 09138555111 for swift response. On Thursday. 2nd May, 2025 at about 2.30a.m, the men from the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team embarked on its clean up enforcement operation at Ikeja and its environs to rid the State of criminal elements. The team observed the entire road, along Akowonjo by Cele busstop has been converted to beer parlor, drug peddling at different level taking place and presence of criminal elements. During the clean up operation, the team ensured the entire area was completely cleared of violation of the State environmental laws and ward off criminal activities. All chairs and tables and other items spread all over the road, preventing free flow of traffic were all seized. Yesterday, two separate incidents involving suspected “Omotaku” touts were recorded at different locations across the State. At Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki, a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down was confronted and threatened by individuals who demanded his phone and money. Similarly, another incident occurred at Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, where suspected touts attempted to harass road users. In both instances, operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspects. They will be processed in accordance with the law. We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, protecting motorists, and eliminating all forms of harassment and intimidation across Lagos. Yesterday, at different times of the day, I directed enforcement and clean-up operations across the state to address persistent street trading and environmental infractions. Our Environmental Task Force intervened at Ogudu Road by Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction, where traders had encroached on the road, obstructing traffic and compromising public safety. During the operations, goods and wares were seized, and 15 offenders were arrested. All suspects will be arraigned in court, and the seized items will be forfeited to the State in line with existing laws. Street trading remains illegal in Lagos, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly and fairly to keep our roads safe, orderly, and free for all road users. #ZeroToleranceLagos

In addition, 26 members of the notorious ‘Omotaku’ group who were apprehended from different parts of Lagos within the last 24 hours, were arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Oshodi. They pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment in accordance with the law. This action reinforces the State Government’s firm stance against activities that threaten public safety, order, and the effective use of public spaces. The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offence Taskforce yesterday, monitored compliance and carried out enforcement at the Ikotun BRT bus station, which has been taken over illegally by street vendors for commercial purposes. All items and wares displayed at the unauthorised location were seized and the bus station and its surroundings sanitized of menace caused by the activities of vendors who have converted the bus station and the public road for commercial purposes. 9 suspects were apprehended during the exercise and they will all be charged to court accordingly. #ZeroToleranceLagos The Lagos State Govt Babajide Sanwo-Olu

We have resumed enforcement operations and arrests of beggars and other individuals constituting nuisance along Ketu-Alapere and adjoining areas. The operation is part of our sustained efforts to restore order, safety, and cleanliness across public spaces in Lagos. While we understand the social dimensions of street begging, the state cannot allow actions that compromise public safety or environmental order. Together, we will maintain the vision of a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.
