If E20 was never going to make petrol cheaper, then what exactly was the benefit of this policy for ordinary consumers? On what basis did Mr. Gadkari claim that petrol prices would come down by ₹15 per litre? Was that backed by credible data and independent studies? We have no objection to E20 itself but the concern is the way the policy was implemented. The government should have waited until most vehicles on Indian roads were E20-compatible before rolling it out nationwide. Public policy should be evidence-based and phased, not rushed. And if this decision was based on studies by ARAI n SIAM, why haven’t those reports been made public? If the policy is backed by robust scientific evidence, there should be no reason to withhold the studies from the public. #E20
