JB Pritzker has given over $1 billion in tax breaks to data centers, at one point making us the #2 state for data centers in the country (we're #4 now). All with no guardrails to protect local residents or regulate energy or water usage. So it's no surprise to see the room packed with opponents when a 3rd data center campus was being proposed in Hoffman Estates. Pritzker and Springfield failed to pause tax incentives for data centers and failed to put in place common sense regulations that ensure data centers pay all their energy costs, limit water usage, and contribute to a property tax relief fund for Illinoisans. Vote Independent in November and we will get it done.

One of the biggest Driving Forces in the Future for Jobs, are Data Centers. They are big, strong, bold, and Money Machines for the State in which they are built. Governor Kathy Hochul, for political reasons, has terminated all Data Centers being built, or to be built, in New York State. We know this because in their one big ugly bill, House Republicans voted to preempt state and local authorities from regulating data centers at all. And every single House Republican but 1 or 2 voted to unleash data centers on the American people in an unfettered fashion. That's facts right there. And in that one big ugly bill, all of these very same House Republicans, including people like Mike Lawler and David Valadao, all of them voted to give tax credits to people building massive data centers and communities across the country, particularly in rural America, without restriction. "Golf courses in Arizona use ~30X as much water as all data centers in Arizona. Best I can tell, data centers are generating ~50X as much revenue per gallon used. So, if I could close all golf courses in Arizona and replace them with data centers ... that would generate billions of dollars in revenue, without increasing water bills. I'm from a not super well-off area that is left behind by industry. I would be excited if a medium-sized data center were built in the vicinity that the town could then tax. Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources.
