😅 is anyone else getting sick of chatbots? I wrote down a few thoughts on why chatbots are not the future of interfaces and how we can be more thoughtful:

Great post. I think the point about “hard to read edits without a diff” can be generalized too: plaintext is a suboptimal data viz for so many LLM outputs. We need diff views, weather widgets, mini maps, 2x2 charts, …

100% yes! before I ran out of time, I was going to add a demo of flipping between two scatterplots -> animating between them -> just showing a diff.

I was waiting for this post. Curious what you think about this slight improvement to the typical chat interface for programming conversations

I love it, and would expect nothing less from you! I've had some similar experiments with adding a buffer when working with a chunk of code - I like the way you have it incorporated into ChatGPT's ui

Team Direct Manipulation!

I just want more physical knobs and sliders!

Two cons of using chat bot in async user feedback/bug report: (1) users expect real time response. If you don’t have enough CS resource, it will damage the expectation of users (2) scripted + automatic responses make things worse. Users just want to hit that “talk to human” btn

YES thank you for writing this. I’m convinced they are the most boring way to interact with these tools but it’s what came first so people are stuck on this for now

💯 I've been waiting for Twitter demos to move on for months!

Thank you for sharing this!! Similar convos/rants at #CHI2023, including the backstory behind this:

💯 I've been really enjoying their demo videos!!
