The focus was on compact defensive shape, protecting the middle, and moving together as a unit up and down the pitch. Players were coached to defend central overloads first and force the ball wide. But on the other side, it is easier to say what makes a bad coach. For me, a bad coach is somebody who takes away the joy of the game from the players, who does not allow them to express themselves or make their own decisions. Especially at the level of development, the role of the coach is to give freedom, but not to control everything."

One thing the best managers seem to do really well is bring fresh energy into their environment, or recognize when it's time to refresh it. Manchester City this season is a great example. Pep Guardiola towards the end of last season openly admitted he's feeling tired, but if you look at his staff recruitment this summer, he's clearly brought in new energy that's now helping to drive training forward.
