It all started with fake frames, now its evolving onto fake graphics? Imagine if FSR, XeSS and PSSR started embracing this kind of upscaling. In the same game, you will have different looking outputs for every different upscaler because these AI models wont be trained on the same data.... Grace in this case here, will look different on an Nvidia GPU using DLSS 5, she will look different using FSR, PSSR or XeSS. You get the point I don't why but I always felt that DLSS was always supposed to provide only one thing, give gamers a better framerate while retaining the same image quality as native resolution. I don't want a randomized output for a character's face that I won't recognize if I turn on DLSS 5 even if my framerate triples. Nvidia and all the game studios embracing this AI slop should take a step back in my opinion because this is not it, even if it is years away.show more

During DLSS 5 Hands-On Video, YouTube creator Hot Hardware asked Nvidia employees this question about the computational cost of DLSS 5 when you move around in the game and it really caught my eye on how they hesitated on showing any DLSS 5 footage during motion. Every time that he moved the character, he would turn off DLSS 5 first then move to a different in-game location and then turn it on, or if DLSS 5 was turned on the movement was very slow and controlled. I know this is still work in progress, but it really begs the question "why wouldn't they show any this?" or "why show DLSS 5 this early?" I tried freezing some shots when another character is in motion to check if there are any artifacts when DLSS 5 is turned on. As suspected, I did come across some artifacts with UI elements, character popping out of the UI element and ghosting/artifacts behind the character. Its still not the best way to judge these small details that you can clearly see if a footage is recorded in-game, but then again its not like Nvidia provided any of them during DLSS 5 marketing campaign. Whenever this is still going to be present by the time DLSS 5 launches remains to be seen, however as of right now it doesn't look like it will handle fast-paced motion quite well and I don't know how well this "controlled AI-generated" rendering will scale to weaker GPUs in the RTX 50 series

Nvidia recently showcased DLSS 5 again being used in character face models and talked about how developers are able to control the intensity of DLSS 5 being applied for “creative freedom”. However, if you look closely at the video when they move the slider, the character face structure (especially on the nose) changes significantly, this is one thing that I don't think generative AI gets right, especially during motion. There are also three different models trained on different data resulting in multiple looks that the developers can also choose from.

You might have seen some posts that Highguard runs at a fake in-game resolution, but its not exactly what you think. Steam User Captain_SmellyRat noticed this issue first by pointing out that if you set render scale at 100%,the game would still show 80% of the resolution in DLSS hud UI. So If you're playing at 1080p, the internal resolution would be 864p and If you don't change the default render scale (which seems to be always set to 75%) the final resolution would be 648p. However it turns out that the in-game resolution is changed in value directly from post-processing settings that you set. Post-processing quality settings would change the internal resolution as follows: Low - 80% of in-game resolution Medium - 90% of in-game resolution High - 100% of in-game resolution If you're playing at high settings, you will not notice the game looking blurry, but if you play at medium or low settings, the game will look extremely blurry even though you think you're playing at 1080p or 4k. I find it weird that post-processing quality directly affects the internal game resolution, but if you're playing the game and it looks blurry to you, make sure you set the post processing quality to high. Whenever this was intentional or not to achieve a higher FPS, I don't exactly know. However, I still think the developers should have clarified what each settings affects the game, which in this case here it directly affects the resolution.

Borderlands 4 Performance Summary in 2 minutes: 0:00 - Native Res Badass Settings the game runs bad 0:30 - Upscaling Performance Mode Badass Settings, the game barely manages to hit 60FPS 1:20 - Frame Gen turned on and now you have 100 FPS Some people will turn all these settings on and be happy with it but in my honest opinion these are used as crutches to make the game look as if it performs good. Borderlands 4 has a certain art style that doesn't look like it needs these kind of settings to be turned on to play at a high framerate but sadly it does and you can defend this if you want but the future of gaming looks bleak, using this tech to not optimize the games further will just result in input latency increase as every game will be delivered with frame-gen turned on in the devs mind.

There are two things worth pointing out about upscaling in #AssassinCreed Black Flag Resynced. 1. Incorrect resolution scaling with Balanced and Performance modes: Using Balanced or Performance with any upscaler causes the game's Resolution Scale (output resolution) to drop, which also lowers the internal render resolution. As a result, these modes apply incorrect scaling and the image quality is noticeably worse than it should be. For now, the workaround is to set the Resolution Scale to 100% and manually adjust the Max Dynamic Resolution (internal resolution) to match the expected scaling for Balanced or Performance mode. 2. The game defaults to the older DLSS 3 CNN model: By default, the game uses the older DLSS 3 Preset E. While it's still a fine option, it doesn't match the image quality of the DLSS 4 Transformer model (Preset K) or the newer DLSS 4.5 (Preset L and M). So I highly recommend forcing at least Preset K through the NVIDIA App (or another tool). Even on RTX 20/30 series GPUs, with Preset K, you can maintain the same performance as before while getting better image quality by using a lower upscaling mode, like Balanced instead of Quality. Hopefully Ubisoft Support fixes the scaling issue and adds an in-game option to choose between DLSS 3, DLSS 4, and DLSS 4.5.

Here's a direct comparison between native TAA VS DLSS 4.5 VS FSR 4 Redstone in Cyberpunk 2077. For this comparison I've used the same in-game save file, game settings and the latest drivers on both machines. The first clip shows Cyberpunk 2077 running at 1080p using native TAA. The second clip shows the game rendered at 1080p then using DLSS 4.5 preset M to upscale it to 4k Third clip shows the game rendered at 1080p then using FSR 4 Redstone to upscale it to 4k

Peter Thiel on $NVDA (about a year ago): It is probably quite tricky. If you had to concretize it, one thing that is very strange is if you just follow the money, at this point 80 to 85% of the money in AI is being made by one company, it is NVIDIA. It is all on this very weird hardware layer, which Silicon Valley does not even know very much about anymore. We do not really do hardware, we do not do silicon chips in Silicon Valley anymore. I get pitched on these companies once every three or four years, and it is always, I have no clue how to do this, it sounds like a pretty good idea, but man, I have no clue, and we never invest. There is this theory that the hardware piece makes the money initially, then gets more commodified over time, and it will shift to software. And the, I do not know, multi trillion dollar question is whether that is going to be true again this time, or whether NVIDIA will have this incredible monopoly. I suspect NVIDIA will. I think it will maintain its position for a while. I think the game theory on it is something like this. All the big tech companies are going to start trying to design their own AI chips so they do not have to pay the 10x markup to NVIDIA. How hard is it for them to do it? How long will it take? If they all do it, then the chips become a commodity and nobody makes money in chips. So do you go into hardware? You should do it if nobody else is doing it. If everybody does it, you should not do it. I am not sure how that nets out, but probably people stay stuck for a while and NVIDIA goes from strength to strength for a while.

Part two, episode two. It was very clear to me. …So in this case, I actually did not outline. Because I was just using these parts of this book, and I knew these books so well at this point. Something that I did, and that I'm trying to do again now when I'm writing the new season, is I'm trying to use—Because there's a dreaminess to this show, I try to use my memory as a guide. I'm like, what do I remember? And then I try to give primacy to the stuff that I remember and that has stuck in my brain all these years with this story. So I’m like, oh I have to do that! And that's a nice way for me to kind of center things. Where if I have to do that, then it means maybe I don't have to do this, and it maybe means I want to combine or collapse different things. Because if this is going to take up—If one incident that I'm thinking of is going to take up the space in an episode that I think of as the heart, …then you don't need to do a first version of it in the same way, you know? Holy Crap! nVidia DLSS 4.5 and even Framegen might be GOOD now. LinusTechTips: "I hate that Fake Frames are good now": - DLSS 4.5 is MUCH SHARPER on upscaling than even the source material. Particles stand out, image quality better than source. - Fake Frames up to 6x, but not how you think. Think no more frame-drops as framegen is dynamic now. Only when you need them. Linus can't even tell when its on or off in most cases now. Watch video highlight below for details.

Take a deep breath and listen to what I have to say because y'all are not catering to the want to be good at the game casuals compared to the ones who have been playing the game since we were kids and give y'all our money every year. More than what casuals have given you the last 5 fucking games put together. Don't forget why this game is made in the first place it's not warzone it's not cod mobile and its definitely not cdl. no because if I have to sit here and cry like casuals, I will take an L to get our shit back unpatch the snipers! They don't do the same things, they don't investigate the same possibilities that the artificial chess playing machine does, because the artificial one is capable of looking at billions and billions of possibilities, whereas the human can only look at hundreds or something. They are doing something completely different. Another difference is that the human can explain, can write a book later, having become world champion, can write a book saying how I did it, as the computer program that beats the world champion can write no such book, because it has no idea how it did it. It was just following a program. I was doing this and that and that and none of that is illuminating. Also, third thing, the chess player can decide I don't want to play chess anymore, from now on I will play Go or from now on I will play tennis. If commanded to play chess, the functionality will deteriorate completely. Those things are different. What we want in an AGI is that it behaves in a way that cannot be specified in advance, because if you specified it, you would already have the answer. I’m now exploring the possibility that even though we may use the same grade of gas we normally do, that different gas stations have better gas than others. I always use 93 and I normally fill at the Marathon, on this tank I filled at the Circle K and I notice the gas mileage is worst even though it’s mostly highway miles. Is this something that’s widely known? I never thought of the possibility that it’s different but it does seem to be the case for me. It makes me wonder if it’s the brand of gas makes a difference like the grade of gas does. I would have thought it’s all the same but it’s looking like it’s not. Do you only go to a certain brand as well or do you feel this is all the same? With the gas prices being up a bit I think it’s worth looking into.

I tested out Cyberpunk 2077 Path Tracing turned on with RX 9070 XT now that FSR Redstone is out. By using the new FSR Redstone and FSR ML Based Frame-Gen, the game reaches up to 130FPS in 1440p with FSR set to Performance Mode. The performance gains are not that much higher compared to the previous versions of FSR but the image quality got a huge upgrade, especially when using Frame-Gen. This ML based Frame Gen is much better than the previous version as it gets rid of most artifacts and ghosting caused by the previous version. If for some reason you always wanted to play Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing turned on on an AMD GPU, now you can enjoy a playable experience with 100+ FPS on an RX 9070 XT. I still don't recommend it though as the frame pacing and input lag still feels off for me, I'd just rather play this without Frame Gen and Path Tracing. I'm going to test out Black Myth: Wukong next
