I have not seen models this locked in and consistent on a major winter storm this far out in a long time. It is not hype. The ice storm aspect of this in Texas to Alabama will be major to locally extreme impact.

❄️ EPIC Snow is about to BEGIN out West as a TRAIN of Storms is poised to ROCK the Western United States. ✅This is DESPERATELY needed for many areas, especially in the Rockies across Colorado and Utah, which are sitting near some of their lowest Snowpack levels on record. ❄️ The heaviest Snow will fall in the Sierra Nevada, where 4 to 8 FEET is expected to DUMP in the mountains starting Monday morning and continuing through Wednesday. 🏔️ Utah will also get in on the Snow action as widespread totals of 1 to 2 FEET accumulate in the mountains, with isolated spots approaching 3 Feet. 🌲 The Colorado Mountains will also see heavy Snow, with 12 to 18 inches likely and some locations approaching 2 Feet. Live emergency update from the Extreme Cold Warning in Minnesota in the core of the Arctic air mass making this crippling snow and ice storm possible! In this update we look at the short-fuse forecast models of ice accretion and snowfall. North of OKC through the Ozarks and along the Ohio River Valley could see 1-2 FEET of snow. This one was a doozy, and will be remembered for a long time. Sadly the fatalities are over 5 now from this storm. The sleet line was a tricky forecast for sure. Major ice storm from Louisiana to middle Tennessee. Indianapolis got over 11" of snow -- biggest snowstorm since 2014. 15 states got 12"+ of snow.

❄️ By definition this will be a Bomb cyclone, and it now looks to become a paralyzing coastal #blizzard for New England, Long Island, and perhaps coastal New Jersey and New York City. Many will receive over a foot of snow Sunday into Monday. Coastal gusts in SE New England may reach #hurricane force 75mph+. This is the latest Hi-Res GRAF (IBM) available as of 4pm Friday. In my opinion it’s likely too far north and west with the heaviest snow, so take snow totals N/W of NYC with a grain of salt, for now, until we get closer to the storm. Still coastal locations in Long Island and SE New England will likely see 1-2 feet! One more note: I love snow, so for me, no snow is too much despite what the legend says :) ❄️ #snow #storm Tri-State Weather Adam tocksin

***SIGNIFICANT SNOW EVENT FRIDAY*** 2ND CALL UPDATED MAP TO INCLUDE 10"+ TOTALS Merry Christmas everyone! I've had some time to review the new data and the storm is basically behaving just as I initially thought. There are a few revisions to my 1st call from yesterday morning to account for HIGHER SNOW RATIOS over NW NJ/Hudson Valley and to move the 6-10" zone into NYC. ZONE 1 – 6–10" OF SNOW This is the zone where cold air damming will be most prevalent, allowing snow to remain all snow for the duration of the event. Expect higher snow ratios, which could allow many areas to push toward double-digit totals, especially under any persistent banding. The pink area of 10"+ accounts for a MUCH higher snow ratio at the start and duration of the storm. This will allow for higher elevations to see many locations pick up 10"+ ZONE 2 – 4–6" OF SNOW This zone will likely start with heavy, wet snow, before transitioning to a lighter, fluffier snowfall as colder air works in. Some compaction is expected with lower snow ratios at times, but additional snow and mesoscale banding could still drive totals toward or above 6" in spots. ZONE 3 – 2–4" WITH MIXING This zone remains VERY uncertain. Everything south of 195 in NJ has a high chance to flip to heavy sleet and rain during convective bandings. I could make a strong argument that cold air advection dominates a tad longer creating an over performer, keeping this mostly snow with sleet mixed in and allowing totals to reach 4–6". However, low-level warm air transport on an easterly wind may introduce sleet, especially along the Jersey Shore (east of GSP) would eat into accumulations. I’ll be watching trends closely as this is shaping up to be a sharp cutoff storm where small shifts could have big impacts.

The forecast for the winter storm has not gotten any better - a foot or more of snow in some areas of northern Missouri, as much as a 1/2" of ice in parts of southern Missouri and blizzard-like conditions in NW Missouri on Sunday. You can't get stuck if you stay off the roads!

It’s bitterly cold, and the snow is light and fluffy, which means it piles up quickly and reduces visibility fast. Boston is already responding in force. A conga line of snow plows is rolling through neighborhoods, nearly 900 crews are deployed clearing city streets, and the city has 40,000 tons of salt on hand for this storm and whatever winter throws next.
