Viewing spots for fans will be really good. 4) A LOT of changes. New holes, redesigned holes, bunkers. Going to be a very different course and look for players in July. 5) Not a huge fan of the new 14th hole but understand why they felt the need to add it. 6) Really like the new par three 15th. 240 from the back but a huge green the feeds balls similar to a Redan green. 6) Never really liked the iconic clubhouse design but it’s incredible inside. Loads of amazing pieces and photos. Lastly, the service of everyone at the club is noticeable. They didn’t know I worked for Golf Digest but everyone I spoke to was overly helpful, friendly and interesting/interested. Bring on July.

I think it provides quite a nice bit of variety with shorter par-4s, a couple of longer par-4s. The par-3s, there's three pretty long ones and a shorter one. "I think in this day and age I'm not sure if it's going to test all aspects of your bag. There's going to be a lot of -- again, as I said, strategy off the tee is pretty nonexistent. "It's, basically, bash driver down there and then figure it out from there, which I think is a lot of these newer -- newly renovated -- I think about Oak Hill in 2023, here. When these traditional golf courses take a lot of trees out, it makes strategy not as much of a concern off the tee. "But the greens are -- as I said at the start, the greens are the main focus this week, and I think getting yourself in the right sections of the greens, making sure you leave yourself below the hole for the most part. That's the key this week. "Again, I've only played four competitive rounds here. This is something where you can have a great appreciation for and like a great amount of thankfulness for being able to do this. Like I said, it's literally one of the most fun things I can do in my entire life. I love being able to come out here and compete, but at the end of the day, it's not what satisfies me."

It’s the eve of the grand reopening of Lakewood CC. Our 1921 Tillinghast original is ready to be unveiled to the membership tomorrow. Here is the final flyover of our new #4 (old #11). This par longer 4 is in the running for biggest hole transformation. When our architect Keith Foster first walked the golf course, I asked him what his fav hole was and he said this hole because of its potential. Two massive original Sahara bunkers that were never filled in with sand were brought to life. The first tree on the right off the tee was removed yesterday and the view is even better. Enjoy

Anthony Kim talks about how it feels being on a team for the first time on the LIV Golf League: “I'm just one day in, but obviously I wouldn't have accepted to be on the team if I didn't like all three of the guys. I've gotten to play with Thomas now quite a bit, and just being around guys that I want to hang out with off the golf course is the reason I chose to be on a team because obviously I had an option to stay wild card. “But honored to be a part of the team, and I think as I get better, the team will have more chances to win.” He then spoke about his expectations and goals for the season: “I'm delusional enough that my expectations were the same today as they were two years ago. But now I'm actually able to produce some of the good shots. “I've been working hard, and it's nice to see rounds like today where they could have been much lower, but it was still solid and on a tricky day. “I think I have a lot of opportunity in front of me, and if I just keep working, I don't see why I can't be contending on Sundays. “My goals are the same as they were when I first joined LIV. Dee Lockett took the mat at 165 in a very highly rated match against Bianci of Little Rock, who came in ranked #5. Lockett had the right leg of Bianchi for a good while on the edge of the mat off a double, got control, and got his takedown. Bianchi escaped, then Lockett hit another takedown on a move that I have no idea what it was. Can anyone help with that move? It was 6-1, Lockett had over 30 seconds of riding time, and the goal was to finish the period on top. And, he did it to take a 6-1 lead to the 2nd with 55 seconds of riding time. That was a pretty awesome job, because Bianchi was VERY active on bottom. Neither wrestler scored in the 2nd period, so the score was 6-2 moving to the 3rd, Lockett on bottom. Lockett quickly escaped to make the score 7-1 with 1:45 left in the match, which is how it ended. #gopokes #okstate

NCAA Champion Michael La Sasso is now the youngest player on LIV Golf after signing for Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC during the off season. He explained his decision to join the league ahead of the season opener in Riyadh: “One of the things that went into my decision, when I was 10 years old starting to play golf, like, the goal for me was to play professional golf. Having people that have been very well-known in the golf space and are so experienced, and to be able to be a part of a team that's with Phil, somebody that's had so much experience, I feel like he'll be able to answer any question that I throw at him, to have the ability to be able to ask somebody that on a daily basis, that played a very big part in it for me because not every 21-year-old has the opportunity to be able to ask questions to those people. So that was a big factor for me. “I think so far, I'm so grateful that I made the decision, and I am very happy to be here.” Michael also says that Caleb Surratt, who joined Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team for the 2024 season, had an impact on his decision too: “So, I've had a very good relationship with Caleb Surratt. Not many people know this, but he was committed to NC State at the same time I was. He's from North Carolina, I'm from North Carolina. Growing up, I played a lot of golf with him, and we were very close. “I remember when he first came here, he stayed at my house because he was getting a swing lesson from -- we go to the same instructor. Everything that he had to say, it made me excited. From a very early start, hearing about LIV and every perk that it had and hearing him talk so highly about it, the fact that I actually had an opportunity to come out here and play, and I asked him a bunch of questions and kind of from the start, everything that he had to say and people that I talked to, everything was so, so good.” He went on to say about the prospect of playing team golf: “I think that makes the transition a little bit easier. I feel like my golf has kind of taken off when I've been in a team environment. For me, having a team around me was very appealing. “I've played good golf as a team. I like the camaraderie, kind of the friendly banter that goes back and forth between the guys. For me to have the opportunity to come play on a team environment for a professional career, I think that's the coolest thing ever.” This is Michael’s rookie season as a pro after signing for HyFlyers GC straight out of college. Normally, it’s a difficult transition for young players to make, but Michael isn’t short of confidence and has some lofty goals: “I've talked with a bunch of people on the team. I know Phil is very big on having a team win and an individual win. Now being the youngest player in the league, I'd kind of like to come in and make a good noise, and I would like to win a couple times. I would like to see the team win for sure, as a team event. Having people that have been very well-known in the golf space and are so experienced, and to be able to be a part of a team that's with Phil, somebody that's had so much experience, I feel like he'll be able to answer any question that I throw at him, to have the ability to be able to ask somebody that on a daily basis, that played a very big part in it for me because not every 21-year-old has the opportunity to be able to ask questions to those people. So that was a big factor for me. “I think so far, I'm so grateful that I made the decision, and I am very happy to be here.” Michael also says that Caleb Surratt, who joined Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team for the 2024 season, had an impact on his decision too: “So, I've had a very good relationship with Caleb Surratt. Not many people know this, but he was committed to NC State at the same time I was. He's from North Carolina, I'm from North Carolina. Growing up, I played a lot of golf with him, and we were very close. “I remember when he first came here, he stayed at my house because he was getting a swing lesson from -- we go to the same instructor. Everything that he had to say, it made me excited. From a very early start, hearing about LIV and every perk that it had and hearing him talk so highly about it, the fact that I actually had an opportunity to come out here and play, and I asked him a bunch of questions and kind of from the start, everything that he had to say and people that I talked to, everything was so, so good.” He went on to say about the prospect of playing team golf: “I think that makes the transition a little bit easier. I feel like my golf has kind of taken off when I've been in a team environment. For me, having a team around me was very appealing. “I've played good golf as a team. I like the camaraderie, kind of the friendly banter that goes back and forth between the guys. For me to have the opportunity to come play on a team environment for a professional career, I think that's the coolest thing ever.” This is Michael’s rookie season as a pro after signing for HyFlyers GC straight out of college. Normally, it’s a difficult transition for young players to make, but Michael isn’t short of confidence and has some lofty goals: “I've talked with a bunch of people on the team. I know Phil is very big on having a team win and an individual win. Now being the youngest player in the league, I'd kind of like to come in and make a good noise, and I would like to win a couple times. I would like to see the team win for sure, as a team event. Caleb Williams and the Bears offense took 6 sacks on 9 charted pressures (PFF) in Week 14 Five on 3rd down Let's look through them... 1) WR spacing is brutal. Some type of mesh concept that ends in confusion. Eyes drop versus looping rusher. Sack 2) This one is on Caleb, IMO. LT forces the rusher around the hoop. LIV Golf have sold nearly 100,000 tickets for their first ever event in South Africa, putting it on track to comfortably be the best attended golf event ever held in the country. Charl Schwartzel spoke about the growth of LIV Golf since their inaugural event in 2022: “Yeah, I mean, that first event in June in 2022, there was a lot of turmoil in our sport, a lot of uncertainty. Obviously it was coming from guys that had come to LIV. Nobody was sure what to expect… “But from a LIV standpoint, it's been fantastic to be part of it, to see how it's grown, gotten better. Every year they improve. “We've had a taste of it every year in Adelaide, where you can see what it can be, because that's like the pinnacle of the LIV events. Now just to see what we've created here in South Africa, it makes you very proud to see. This is fantastic. “I don't think there's any -- there's never been a golfing event in South Africa that's ever been set up like this, and I don't think many sporting events here. Scottie Scheffler has made golf look easy over the last few years, but he’s clearly frustrated with his game this week: “I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today. “I don't know if you were out there on the course, but I was going to be hard to find if you were out watching my group. I felt like I got my first birdie putt of the day on the 13th hole. I maybe had one on 11, but I couldn't imagine I hit more than six or seven greens today. So around this golf course, with heavy rough and deep bunkers, you got to be hitting the ball in the right spots and for a long time today that was definitely not the case for me.” Scottie was visibly frustrated yesterday at the Memorial and had a long, heated discussion with his caddie Ted Scott after dunking a ball into the water. After rallying with 3 birdies in his last 6 holes today for a level par 72, he currently sits T20 and he was asked how proud he was to comfortably make the cut after looking in danger earlier in the round: “I think I grind like that every day. I think that's just part of the game. That's maybe some of the worst I've hit it in a couple years out there and I still managed to shoot even par around a golf course that requires to you strike the ball really well. Yeah, I'm definitely very proud of stuff like that. “This tournament was one that definitely could have got away from me, but right now I'm only nine shots back and still have a chance going into the weekend. With the conditions the way they are, you never really know what's going to happen around this golf course and just getting inside the cut line you still have a chance.” Scottie is currently 10 shots back of leader J.T Poston.
