John Carmack’s analysis is correct as are almost all of his takes. I have only immense respect for him, and if we all had 20-20 hindsight I guess the world would be overturned. It was kind of refreshing that id was ruined by game devs instead of clueless execs for a change.

John doesn't owe any one of these crybabies shit. And we should be ashamed to live in a world where he has to appologize. Did Steve Job appologize for giving us the modern phone? Did Henry Ford appologize for starting the industrial revolution? Did Walt Disney appologize for dazzling generations of young people with wonderous stories that invited us to a greater future? Does Jeff Bezos go around crying he made goods and services affordable? Good things take a lot of hard work and ambition. Shame there are a bunch of candy asses that decided this had to be about them, and to detract from the rare talent that pushes human civilization forward. It's shameful. When did we become a bunch of self aggrandized candy asses?

It did nothing of the sort. Quake is the single most significant first person shooter ever released, driven by the tireless efforts of pioneers that needed to give the industry a good swift kick.

haha but its true, if they tried to make a new quake game it would be nothing like the classic both design-wise and gameplay-wise, current new doom games are more and more alien to the original with each new release
