Nobody is writing 90% of their code using AI. Here's the uncomfortable truth: The real productivity gain from using AI to write code is closer to 10%, nowhere near the 90% people claim. Sundar Pichai said in 2024 that 30% of the new code at Google was AI-generated. However, he went on to admit, during Lex Friedman's podcast, that engineering velocity had only increased by about 10%. AI-generated code isn't free code. It still has to be reviewed, tested, and made production-ready. Optimizing a single step (code generation) doesn't boost output if bottlenecks shift elsewhere (code reviews). It doesn't matter how much code you generate if you can't keep up the review process. The solution: Automate as much as you can the review and verification of your code. Day 3 of getting back to building my gamified workout tracker. (have some AI features) I just tested both Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5 for the multilingual feature, and Opus 4.8 is still slightly better. It only needed one prompt to solve it. My apps always supports multiple languages because I target multiple markets and don’t want to depend on just one market. Powered by Opus 4.8, Rork, Cursor

Even if AI will write 90% of code. But it won’t replace engineers. Windsurf’s founder explains that even if AI generates most of the code, engineers still spend time reviewing it, debugging issues, designing systems, testing, deploying, and making architectural decisions. Those parts don’t disappear. He brings up Amdahl’s Law to make the point: speeding up one part of the workflow doesn’t dramatically change the total time unless everything else speeds up too. For example, if writing code takes 30 out of 100 total time units, and AI brings it down to 3, the total time still only drops to 73. That’s just a 27% improvement. More productivity doesn’t mean fewer engineers. It just increases the ROI of building tech. And when ROI goes up, companies are more likely to build—and hire more people to do it. Take JPMorgan Chase. They have 50,000+ engineers and a $17B software budget. If each engineer can ship more software, that doesn’t reduce headcount. It raises the cost of not building. Companies like Windsurf and Anthropic are hiring more engineers—not less—despite being at the edge of AI code generation.

Everyone's talking about vibe coding without looking at code. I was skeptical. I decided to give it a shot on a challenging problem and was blown away by what I could accomplish in 8 hours. I'm not skeptical anymore, but I also do NOT think it kills SaaS Notes: - I tried to replicate some of my favorite features from the Solve-It platform as a jupyter extension - I've tried this many times before, and it didn't work. - I gave my agent specific testing tools that I packaged as skills. I used AI to write the skills. I found the right testing workflow for this Jupyter extension by having AI peruse lots of other extensions and the Jupyter source code. - I had the AI write and maintain a large suite of tests the whole time. I think this was important in keeping the AI on track. - I watched the diffs and the thinking traces as they streamed by. From time to time, I would see something very suspicious like " try ... except: pass" And would stop the AI and tell it to stop this behavior. Then trigger a comprehensive code review using AI. - Most importantly, I don't think this kills SasS at all. Even if I can create software that replicates some of my favorite features, there is an insanely long tail of paper cuts and features I don't want to manage. The models and capabilities are improving so fast that I don't want to constantly tune everything. So I would rather leave that up to people who are focused on that daily and have good taste, with the knowledge that it has been battle tested against many users.

I set up Gemini Spark to write my own weekly AI news digest for me, and I'm still stuck on how little effort I had to put in. This is the exact prompt I gave it, just once: "Every Tuesday at 12:15 PM, create a new Doc in my Drive, find the 5 biggest AI stories from that week, and format each one properly." And here's what it actually produces, every week: 1. A new Doc, created and named on its own 2. The 5 biggest AI stories from that week, found and picked automatically 3. A bold headline and a summary for each one 4. The key impact spelled out, not just the news 5. A source link on every single story This runs on a schedule so I never have to think about it again. I didn't ask anything on Tuesday, I just opened the drive and the news digest doc was already there. Just like this, you can use Spark to automate any recurring task.

Why an “abundance mindset” is best for interacting with agents Codex is designed to allow users to delegate many tasks at once without getting caught up in the details. This lets you point an abundance of agents at a specific task like a difficult bug—it’s worth it even if only one of them succeeds. Marc Andreessen explains why AI coding won't replace programmers, but fundamentally change what they do. He argues that AI coding is just the latest abstraction layer, and the job of a programmer has always evolved with each one. Andreessen's key reframe of what's actually happening: "AI coding actually abstracts away the process of actually writing the scripting code... This is the next layer of the task redefinition under the job of programmer." He's clear that the best programmers aren't being replaced. They're already adapting, even if their day-to-day looks radically different now. Their job has shifted from writing code line by line to managing dozens of AI agents working in parallel. "The world's best programmers today will tell you, 'My job is I'm sitting there and I'm orchestrating 10 code bots running in parallel.' Their day job now is kind of arguing with the AI bots to try to get them to write the right code." But Marc Andreessen 🇺🇸 is adamant this doesn't make foundational knowledge obsolete — it makes it more important. "You need to still fully understand and learn how to write and understand code, because if it doesn't work or it's not doing what you expect, you need to be able to understand the results of what the AI is giving you."
