Hockey players need to stop this. Dropping down to block a shot needs to end. Can brake a bone or your face. The world knows they are the toughest- more abuse not needed. Slap shot to the body is simply absurd. No other sport engages in this

A lot of that culture is built off the ice with relationships, but it's also really built on the ice with buy in, sticking up for each other, and unselfish play. This unselfish play here from Artemi Panarin shows why he is one of the most popular teammates in the league. It's a small thing, but worth the weight of gold in the locker room. In a league where goals are at a premium, and goals equal dollars, Panarin has a clear open net for the goal but chooses to pass it to Kreider. And yes, one can argue that he should've shot it in a one-goal game. But I still love it. When top players are unselfish, that goes such a long way for setting the tone for the team's culture. The Rangers are only one point back from the top of the league, and as small as a play as this is, it's probably a big reason why. I'm also a believer in the Hockey Gods. Because what happens on the following shift...Panarin gets the puck and scores another empty netter. Awesome. Coaches, this is a great clip to show your team and especially your top players. Great job by Artemi Panarin!!

Watch Leon Draisaitl's effort on this play to win the puck battle. He's one of the smartest, most skilled players in the world...but he's not leading the NHL in goals or helping lead the Oilers to a Stanley Cup final without this grit. If your best players are your most competitive and hardest workers, you'll have a recipe for success. Coaches, this is a great clip to show your teams. Great job from Draisaitl!!

Players are too good defensively at the next levels. Here are two great examples of really good players trying to go through a defender - but they turn it over and it goes the other way in transition for a goal. If you have a coach preaching passing when you're younger - even if you're highly skilled and can beat defenders 1on1 pretty easily - that's a coach that's helping you to succeed at the next levels.

I’ve never been a part of a championship team where the best players weren’t the hardest working and most bought in players on the team. If you want to win, your best players have to lead the way with effort and being a great teammate. Check out Wild superstar Matt Boldy on these clips from yesterday’s game against Detroit. First, he scores a great goal after getting physical and helping to create the turnover. Next he threads a SWEET pass to Kaprizov for the game winner. Then – he gets in front of a one-timer on the ice 6on5 in the dying seconds with a one goal lead. Blocks a bomb from MORITZ SEIDER to seal the win. Minnesota is getting ready to make a run. Many establishments now are trying to eliminate separate restrooms for men and women and making it one big bathroom with specific stalls for men and women instead. I’m not sure if I’m all for it, it seems like a recipe for disaster. At least the doors on the stalls go all the way to the bottom so you can’t peek in. I still question the safety for women and children though, would you let your kids into a combined bathroom like this one?

If you want to be a team that's hard to play against, teach and preach tracking from the opposing goal line all the way back. This is a great clip demonstrating an offensive zone track. McDavid hounds the puck, creates the turnover, and then does McDavid things to create the goal. UNREAL. It's about getting the players to buy in to the accountability that it takes for them to be successful & for them to be accountable to the other players on the team."

COACHES: This is another HUGE pet peeve of mine. Players trying to do it all themselves and making a potential rush opportunity into a 1v1. The higher the level you play, the less likely a player will beat a defender 1v1. Especially on the rush. I see so many kids try to do it themselves - and if the kid is talented enough at the younger ages it potentially may work out. But as players advance to higher and higher levels, you rarely see anybody try to beat a defender 1v1. And even more rarely do you see anybody actually beat a defender 1v1. I see so many coaches rewarding kids at the younger ages for taking the puck from one end of the ice to the other and scoring. While it's great that a number goes on the scoreboard, you are doing a disservice to the kid's development. Because if that kid doesn't learn the value of passing and using their teammates, at some point this clip is going to happen to them. A LOT. And that player will eventually get passed by the kids that learned to play the right way with their teammates. On this clip the ANA player tries to do it all himself and the puck goes the other way and eventually ends up in the back of his net. It's hard enough to beat one person 1v1 in high level hockey, let alone skating the puck through multiple defenders. So coaches, please emphasize the value of using your teammates. I see this type of play SO OFTEN in youth hockey. Passing, hockey sense, playing with your head up, using your teammates...these skills translate to the next levels. Doing it yourself, even if it works as a young player, does not.

As a coach, you have to ask yourself, “How do I slow the other team down?” And one of the ways you can do this is by tagging up on a shot attempt. Tagging up: offensive players will crash the glass by “tagging” the player closest to them. This allows the offense, which is going to defense, to match up already. This slows down transition offenses by “choking” the ball and making it more difficult for players to throw outlet passes. Marc Andreessen explains why warm referrals to venture capitalists are important As Marc explains in the clip below: “The way the top-end venture capitalist firms work is they’ll basically take you seriously if you come in introduced by somebody they’ve worked with before, and they won’t take you seriously if you don’t.” While this may seem unfair, Marc explains that securing a warm referral should be viewed as your first test: “It’s the first test of your ability to network your way to the investor… If you can’t figure out a way to network your way to a VC firm—which of course is in the business of meeting founders—then you’re unlikely to be able to network your way into hiring a great team or selling your product to customers.” He concludes: “The role of the warm referral is misinterpreted. I think you just need to view it as the first test, and it’s a test that you just want to pass.”
