Starbucks laid off 120 Seattle employees that did not want to move to the new HQ in Nashville. University of Washington finance expert Thomas Gilbert put it as clear as can be; "The marginal cost of staying in Seattle is going up. The marginal benefits of staying here are going down. ...This is a reflection of; this may not be the place to keep growing." (Is everyone ready to admit Starbucks is leaving Seattle yet?) Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said Tuesday he recently held a “lengthy” conversation with Starbucks leadership ahead of the company’s announcement that it plans to build a new headquarters in Nashville. “Starbucks is an important part of the fabric of our community here in Washington state, to put it mildly,” Ferguson said, adding he would work to support the company “in every way possible.” Ferguson also acknowledged the company’s decision to expand outside its home state, framing it as part of a broader national trend. The rumors are officially true. Starbucks is building a new HQ in Nashville, Tennessee. The company announced Tuesday that it is a $100 million investment expected to create 2,000 jobs. The coffee giant said it will keep its Seattle headquarters, and Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol labeled the move as an expansion, rather than any sort of relocation from the company's longtime home of Seattle. NEW: Last year Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson blasted Starbucks while standing in solidarity with workers on strike. This week, she announced the local coffee giant would help fund the first phase of the city's homelessness response. So is the mayor now pandering to Starbucks or is Starbucks pandering to the mayor? Either way, we all know how the last public-private partnership to end homelessness turned out for local donors and the government.🧵👇

Following news Starbucks is laying off 252 more Seattle based workers, Jon Scholes of the Downtown Seattle Association says "Seattle is at a tipping point and we should take nothing for granted." This also follows scathing comments by former Democrat Governor Christine Gregoire on the state's continual budget woes where she said 'we don't have a revenue problem; we have a spending one.' And as if all of that wasn't bad enough; Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is now in the national spotlight as 'the mayor that waved goodbye to prosperity.' This is an entirely self inflicted crisis and unless something drastic changes... We are headed for economic disaster. 🇺🇸 Seattle's new Democratic Socialist mayor is already rattling members of her own party with her woke agenda, weeks into the job. City Councilmember Rob Saka, who celebrated Katie Wilson's election victory just months ago, said he is now "gravely concerned" about the city's trajectory. The alarm followed Wilson dismissing fears that millionaires and businesses might flee Washington state over rising taxes. Her response to wealthy residents leaving: "And the ones that leave? Like, bye." Starbucks announced plans to shift 2,000 corporate jobs to Nashville shortly after. Its founder, Howard Schultz, publicly rebuked her in a WSJ column, accusing her of "socialist rhetoric" that vilifies employers while relying on them for revenue. Weeks in, one of her biggest supporters is gravely concerned. That's not a great start. Source: Daily Mail

Starbucks baristas have been testing a blending powder used in Frappuccino beverages, with some reporting they were advised against inhaling it due to potential toxicity concerns. When a few scoops of the powder are blended, its texture shifts to a slimy consistency. Much of the alarm appears to stem from the discovery that Starbucks’ blending base contains silicon dioxide. Some people have mistakenly equated this with crystalline silica, a recognized occupational hazard when inhaled as fine dust. In reality, the two are distinct: food-grade silicon dioxide serves as a common anti-caking agent in many products and is regarded as safe by food-safety regulators when used as intended. Because Starbucks does not publicly disclose the exact formulation of its blending base, speculation about its ingredients has continued.

Starbucks is the largest unregulated bank in America. They are hoarding almost $2 billion of your money. And it's completely by design. They don't just sell coffee. They've built one of the largest legal money schemes in history... Right now, Starbucks is holding $1.85 billion in gift card and app balances. Money that customers loaded but never spent. To put that in perspective: 85% of US banks have less than $1 billion in total deposits. Starbucks holds more customer cash than most actual banks. But here's the difference: Banks pay you interest to hold your money. Starbucks pays you nothing. Banks have to keep cash reserves in case you want to withdraw. Starbucks just needs to stock coffee and muffins. Banks are regulated by the federal government. Starbucks answers to no one. The CEO of South Korea's third-largest bank said it publicly: "Starbucks is an unregulated bank, not a coffee company." So how did they build this financial empire? It started with gift cards in 2001. Simple idea: load money, buy coffee later. But Starbucks noticed something interesting. People weren't redeeming all their gift cards. A $25 card might have $3.47 left on it forever. That leftover money? Pure profit. They call it "breakage." In 2024 alone, Starbucks made $207 million from money people loaded but never spent. Free money. No coffee served. But they didn't stop there. They engineered the entire system to maximize breakage. First, they made gift cards year-round items instead of just holiday gifts. Then they launched the Starbucks app. The app forces you to pre-load money before ordering. You can't just pay $6.84 for your latte. You have to load $10 minimum. Now you've got $3.16 sitting in their system. That's not a bug. That's the business model. Then they added auto-reload. Set it up once, and Starbucks automatically charges your card whenever your balance drops. Money is flowing in constantly. Most people forget it's even happening. Then they added rewards. You earn more points by paying with your Starbucks balance than with a credit card. So you're incentivized to keep money locked in their system. The trap is airtight. A consumer complaint filed in Washington State called it an "involuntary subscription." Their exact words: "This Catch-22 traps customers in a cycle that resembles an involuntary subscription." You load money to buy coffee. You have a leftover balance. You come back to use it. You load more money. The cycle never ends. Think about what Starbucks actually built: They collect billions in deposits. They pay no interest. They have no withdrawal obligations. They keep 10-13% of all deposits as pure profit. They're not regulated as a financial institution. Any bank would kill for this model. But they'd go to prison for trying it. Starbucks does it in plain sight....

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson just blew off ANOTHER reporter this week. KOMO reporter Jackie Kent was attempting to interview the Mayor about the lack of transparency in her administration, and about the now multiple incidents of Mayor Wilson acting downright hostile towards journalists. The Mayor's staff told Kent that her questions would be answered after the event they were at, but that appears to have been a cover to avoid them altogether. The only solution to this is by local media holding Mayor Wilson's feet to the flames, until she comes to terms that she's a public servant...and not a "Queen". Starbucks has long been a symbol of modern entrepreneurship. Since going public in 1992 at $17 a share, it’s grown an incredible 27,800%. This is the company that introduced America to the latte. Seattle's political leaders are not serious people. They have never run anything of significance yet are thrust into a position of operating a city with some of the world's most significant companies; Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks and Boeing all have a large presence in Seattle, not to mention several other large tech companies such as Google and Meta. Prior to becoming Mayor, Katie Wilson's only work experience was as an activist for a transit union, yet she counts the JumpStart tax as one of her "achievements". The JumpStart tax has caused Seattle to have the highest commercial vacancy rate in the entire nation, decimating Seattle's downtown core and hollowing out the city's tax base. Given the great advantages that Seattle has, it should be one of the most prosperous cities on Earth, with commercial real estate brimming with businesses who want to come here. Rather, the opposite is true. Businesses are looking for the exits because our city is being run by people with literally zero business experience and no understanding of how markets work.

🚨Mayor Wilson double downs Tuesday and rejects claim her staff delayed Sunday briefing for ‘dignitaries’ yet falls flat on reasoning, still evades on who made the decision Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson on Tuesday again denied that anyone in her office blocked the Seattle Police Department from holding an immediate news conference Sunday night after the gang-related mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival. A reporter confronted Wilson with new information that between 7:45 and 8 p.m., alleging that someone from the mayor’s office told SPD leadership they could not proceed with a press conference that police wanted to hold right away, citing the arrival of “dignitaries.” “That is not my understanding, no,” Wilson said. Mayor Wilson told reporters Tuesday that there was extensive back-and-forth among her office, police and state and federal elected officials as they coordinated a response. Wilson said authorities were conducting an active search for suspects at Seattle Center and that she was told it would not be helpful for her or other elected officials to arrive at the scene during that time. “We went back and forth and eventually landed on an appropriate time to address the press and to share information,” she said. “That is my understanding.” Pressed further on whether her office issued any order that effectively prevented police from speaking sooner, Wilson referred reporters to her earlier answer. A second reporter shared with Mayor Wilson at the presser that "what makes it difficult to believe" her explanation on the delay is that SPD personnel have received extensive training and paid tens of thousands of dollars to consultants on crisis communication, to conducting pressers without her nor other "dignitaries" needed to be present. Wilson has and is facing repeated criticism about the delay of the presser to be used as a photo op for politicians instead of expediting the pubic safety information to residents. The delay in waiting for "dignitaries" statement from an SPD spokesperson was also captured by Jeremy Harris of KOMO News later Sunday night on video.
