🎓Learn how to create a powerful Torn Fabric smart material in a matter of seconds in my latest video series (AAA) Pro Tips! This smart material can be used on virtually any 3D asset. In this video, the steps are as follows: 1. Create a base fill layer... containing no information. We will use this layer to call out the core effects. Add a black mask to this layer and inside that mask add a paint layer and draw a simple pill shape. 2. Next, add a blur directional and be sure the direction is the same direction that your fabric is flowing to. 3. Add a UV border generator set to subtract to mask out any uv seams followed by an anchorpoint. Additionally, add a messy Fibers 3 fill layer set to overlay. 4. Use a levels to adjust the mask along with a sharpen filter. A warp filter should also be added to introduce some randomness. Add an anchor point at the top of the mask as well. 5. Create another fill layer with its opacity channel set to black and apply a black mask to the fill layer. Inside its mask retrieve the anchorpoint information from the previous fill layer. 6. Create an additional fill layer with a bright diffuse color along with a black mask applied to it. Add the anchorpoint information from the previous mask into its mask as well and this should give us some white fibers on the edges. Now we have a torn fabric effect wherever we paint using the paint layer created inside the callout mask! 🎓Learn how to create a powerful Dynamic Embers smart material in a matter of seconds, in my latest video series (AAA) Pro Tips! This smart material can be used on virtually any 3D asset. ___________________________________________________ In this video, the steps are as follows: 1. Create a fill layer to then apply the base maps for our asset into it. 2. Bake out the world space, AO, Curvature, and Position maps. These maps will be crucial for the smart material to function. Also, be sure to add an emissive channel to the project. 3. Next, create another fill layer labeled (Fire animation gradient) with a black mask and inside the mask apply a paint layer. Select the paint layer and paint a simple pill shape using a soft brush. Add an anchorpoint to the mask and disable all channels in this fill layer. 4. This will give us the illusion of the embers glowing from inside the charred tree. Duplicate this fill layer and tweak its emissive color to a yellowish hue and reduce its mask amount. Do this a second time but with a white-colored emissive channel. This will now create an effect of the embers appearing brighter the deeper they are inside the tree. 7. Lastly, add these layers into a folder with a black mask and apply the (Fire Animation Gradient) anchorpoint into its mask via a fill layer. Now we have a charred embers effect wherever we paint using the paint layer created inside the gradient mask! 🟢Substance Painter Tip With "Anchor Points" you can link layers together (e.g. use one layer as a mask for another), which makes workflows much faster. Example: You have a shadow layer and want to add an outline around it. Instead of repainting the outline every time you change the shadows, use an Anchor Point: 1. Add an Anchor Point to the shadow layer 2. Add a Fill Filter for the shadow outline layer 3. For the Fill grayscale, select the Anchor Point 4. Add a "Mask Outline" filter 5. If you paint new shadows now, the outline will adjust automatically!

Here is a breakdown (kind of) how I did this effect for live2d Vtuber model art. I’ve drawn the lips, you would have to separate top and bottom though and added a cyan layer which will be my mask and the mask for the rigger to clip on. Then I added a shiny add layer on top and used the cyan layer as a mask, just to test the effect in procreate, you would have to delete the black/white procreate mask for the rigger because this can cause issues. If you have any questions feels free to ask. 💕

How annoying is it when you can't find a company's logo in SVG format? I use a quick hack in Figma that lets me easily change the logo's color to whatever I need. 1. Add a rectangle layer on top of the logo layer. 2. Right-click and create a mask for the logo layer. 3. Voilà.

I've seen some people ask how the Noxus Portal in Arena is made, so here is how! It is using a stencil mask (very similar to a Photoshop Layer Mask) to hide geometry that is placed in front and behind it to fake a parallax effect. This video shows with and without the stencil enabled. The reflection layers are in the front, while the several flat environment layers are in the back.

CSS Trick! 🤙 You can create gradient borders on translucent elements using mask-clip and mask-composite with a pseudo-element 🔥 .gradient-border::after { mask-clip: padding-box, border-box; mask-composite: intersect; mask: linear-gradient(transparent, transparent), linear-gradient(white, white); } It's the same "Transparent border trick" from before. But, now you apply it to a pseudo-element 😎 The trick is to create a pseudo-element with a gradient background and then mask it so we only see the part we want, the border ✨ mask-clip defines the area affected by a mask. Similar to how you can define background-size. Using padding-box and border-box constrains the two masks. mask-composite is the magic part ✨ It defines a compositing operation for stacked mask layers. Using intersect means that the parts that overlap get replaced. And this seems to work in all browsers 🙌 As for the rest of the styles... – Make sure you set pointer-events: none on the pseudo-element – Make sure it fills the parent element. You can use position: absolute and inset: 0 – Make sure the background fills the space including the border-width. Tips: Inverted Hull Method #Live2D You can create an anime-style outline with a few simple steps. Here's how: 1. Open your paint tool and select the hair parts. Select the hair lineart and register it as the selected area. Select the hair base layer and erase the color from the selected parts. 2. Next, fill the inside with a dark color and move the lineart behind the base hair layer Repeat the same steps for the other bang strands. After adjusting the layer order, Place all hull lineart layers behind all base hair layers. 3. Export the PSD to Live2D and rig the hair motions. The result looks just like anime! Sound video⬇️

When I saw the mask "Tribes of the Calf" from Kanbas I knew I had to make it into reality. The jewelry and gold really made it stand out for me. Since Sam Spratt's The Masquerade was revealed, I have been spending time sculpting and dissecting the mask to recreate it in 3D as faithfully as possible. I delved into the creation of this mask for many reasons. I love a good challenge and this mask surely was one for me. Creating something in 3D from a 2D image is not easy, and especially when the source has generative nature, some stuff is hard to interpret, but I tried my best to make sure the visual integrity of the mask is as close to the original as possible. Splitting the whole mask into parts, filling the missing pieces so I can build the textures was quite a lot of work. I tried to present the mask in my own style with a slightly different colorway to adapt to the mask itself. Please enjoy this short animation, and turn on sound🔊 This piece is my statement that I am here to stay. That I have a voice that often feels being lost in the void. That I have been creating and posting digital art for over 20 years now and will continue until I'm gone. I have a story to tell and I want to be heard. The space we have here is small, and is shrinking day by day. It doesn't have to be like that. We need to support each other and push ourselves and people here, otherwise we are all doomed. As Kanbas has put in their observation of the mask: "Inspirational. Emotional. Natural." This is what our space can be, and this is me making a statement with this homage. I will share a 4k still below as well as a short video showing the 3D GLB interactive model together with a yt link to the 4k video since compression here is pretty bad.

I think I found the most intuitive Blender texturing add-on for artists who work with NPR models relying on hand-painting 🥹 This is “Paint System” and I found it really simple to use and navigate! It really feels like using PS/CSP in Blender ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ) Here’s a simple video showing how layers work (very simple clipping mask & alpha locking too), changing layer blend mode, and you can then bake the layers into 1 & export image! Opacity of each layer can also be adjusted with a slider like in PS/CSP but I forgot to show it hahah It also comes with 2 very nice brushes!! I know there are other add-ons for the same job or can do even more things but just wanted to share this since I found it the most intuitive as someone who hand paints textures a lot in other art programs and have non-existent knowledge over nodes in Blender ;-; Link to the add-on in replies and happy painting!!!! (ᗒ⩊ᗕ)⸝ި ʕᦏ⌎ (yes it’s free! with an option to donate to the creator to support them too)

How do we enable single-layer PCBs to support the routing complexity of multi-layer PCBs? We're making a "Bridge-Programmable Interconnect" chip. This chip is "programmed" by traces etched on the top layer of the PCB, it allows any configurable pin to connect to any other configurable pin Why is this a big deal? Single-layer PCB etching can be done in minutes on a UV laser, but because they don't have vias it is impossible to change layers. Using an interconnect chip, you are guaranteed to be able to route any signal over any other signal. By placing these on your single-layer PCB, you can reconfigure wiring such that you don't need any vias!

007/100 Buttons. This button was way more complex than I first thought. I love the page transition on the Truus site that Dennis Snellenberg and Jordan Gilroy worked on. So I wanted to use that drawing SVG Path idea somehow and fit it into a button. In best case with a mask effect. The idea was to have an SVG path in the background that fills the button. At the same time, this path should also be used as a mask to reveal the differently colored text. The SVG should also be replaceable and work with other SVGs. For the path animation, I can use the DrawSVGPlugin from GSAP. Sounds like a solid plan. I built the button so far, and it worked great in Chrome and Firefox. In Safari, nope. I used an SVG mask that I referenced through CSS. But Safari can’t handle that properly when the path inside the mask is animated, so the animation lags. There was no simple solution for that. At least I didn’t find something. So I had to rebuild the button in another way. What I found was that the SVG mask animation works in Safari when the mask is placed on the desired element inside the SVG. That’s where foreignObject comes in, it allows you to use normal HTML elements inside an SVG. Using that, I rebuilt the hover text inside the SVG. I then referenced the mask on the foreignObject with a bit of JavaScript. And it worked! In this video, Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of war, plucks out the mask splinter from Faye's hand and says. "Another mask, this looks important to you. You think it will set you free." Now if you read my previous theory that says Athena created the Afterlife for Gods, that is Everywhen ( I will link it below) This is mask is planted by Athena herself in every mythology, and her plan is to make every god obsessed with the thought of "what happens after a death of god, where do they go" and the curiosity drives the Gods crazy, so they wear the mask and are pulled into the rift, yes the masks kills them and pulls them into the Everywhen. Odin was a victim of it, he cared more for mask than Ragnarok itself, which was supposed to be the end of him but the obsession with question " What happens to God after death" drove him so crazy he didn't care about anything else. I think Sekhmet and Begtse are victims of that mask as well, the line " You think it will set you free " feels very deep, almost like she tried finding the answers of afterlife, wanting to be free of the mortal plane and this mask came as a hope to her, so she tried and got pulled here. Now why would Athena or whoever the creator of this place would do that? I am not sure but I now can't stop thinking about it.
