MAN CONVICTED OF MURDERING PARTNER A controlling Birmingham man has been convicted of murdering his partner after a two-year campaign of coercion and violence. Ismail Younis was found dead at Imran Uddin’s home in Hockley on 20 August, three days after he vanished. Police say the relationship started well,... then Uddin took over — dictating Ismail’s clothes, looks and phone. He mocked Ismail’s autism and regularly assaulted him to keep him in line. Hours before he was killed, Ismail said he wanted out. He had found proof Uddin was cheating. On 17 August CCTV showed Uddin trailing him around Birmingham city centre, turning up at his workplace again and again, until Ismail was last seen on Uddin’s scooter heading to Richmond Road. There Uddin strangled him, then stabbed him repeatedly even after he was dead. The body was not found until the 20th. Uddin caught a train from New Street to family in Milton Keynes. The next day he got a haircut, had his eyebrows threaded and grabbed some food — as if nothing had happened. Conviction first. Sentence still to come. He was paralyzed from the waist down, couldn’t feel or move his feet. He was rushed to the hospital & passed out in the hospital. A 55-year-old man was shot and killed last night while sitting in his car at the Chevron on Redan Road. Police found the man with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he later passed away from his injuries. Investigators say the victim had a conversation with the shooter before the incident and do not believe it was a random act of violence. No arrests have been made yet.

This is a tradition among the Kabras, but I hear that most Luhyas and Luos also practice it. His burial service was held while his body was still in the mortuary. After the people went home, the elders brought his body and buried him quietly. Children and even men under 30 who had no children were not allowed to be present during the lowering of the body. Grass was planted on the grave to make it look like nothing had ever happened there. The next day, all his clothes and belongings were donated. This is done to help the community forget him and to ward off such kinds of deaths in the future.
