Maple had her third session of training with the mat today. Day 1 she figured out she needed to be on the mat and after she was consistently going there, we paired the cue "place". Day 2 continued with the cue and getting her to consistently go to the mat with the handler on all sides. Today we sat further away from the mat and gave the cue, from a distance, and had her stay there for slightly longer durations. She does very well. We'll continue to practice longer durations and cueing from different spots. Once she's super consistent staying there (that should only take a couple more sessions) and is a bit better at keeping all 4 paws on, we'll add some distractions and take the mat outside and practice. Eventually this will be the behavior she will be asked for if she needs wait quietly. We use it at appointments, coffee shops, checkouts etc. We're often asked what the difference is between a place and a down stay is. When we use a down stay, it means the dog stays in the down position and doesn't move, whereas place is more about a zone. The dog can sit, stand, turn around or lay down, as long as they stay on the mat and behave. It's often used in long durations for working dogs so it gives them the opportunity to reposition themselves to be comfortable. Admin Post; Tonight I started shaping a "Place" on a mat with Kenji. As soon as I put the mat down he sniffed, I clicked and tossed a treat. When he came back, he walked right onto it, I clicked and tossed the treat. And then grabbed my phone because I wanted to capture this. He gave me multiple reps of coming to the mat and retrieving the treat within the first few minutes. He had it figured out so fast. I keep these sessions short. Especially with puppies. I lost his focus a bit because he found a stay treat, but we got it back and he offered the behavior of going to the mat. Multiple times. Tomorrow we'll do a couple reputations and I'll add the cue. It's always amazing to work with a puppy like this. The kind that figures things out so fast. Free shaping has the dog figure out what to do by the timing of the click. I only introduced the clicker yesterday for about 4 minutes. In one session he's doing what took 2-3 sessions with pups 6 weeks older. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. 🐾❤️It's Moon's final day with us. Tonight he goes back to the Service Dog program where he'll have many other adventures. Today he's working on staying in place while the human leaves him and goes and opens the door. This will help him learn to be calm and not try to go exploring when a door opens, and that when he's in place, he can move around or change positions, but can't leave the mat. He makes mistakes because he's learning, but with a few more repetitions, he'll understand. We didn't teach him a whole bunch of new skills while he was here, but what we've taught him is his marker sounds (clicks, yes and good) and his release word so he understands when he's done the thing he was supposed to, when he should keep doing it, and when he's free to go. This is the foundation that will make learning other skills easy. We've also helped him learn to settle calmly when asked and play when appropriate, and we've introduced him to lots of sites and sounds. He's a delightful pup. We're taking a short break from puppies to get stuff caught up around the house, get some appointments done and other human business. But I'm sure we'll have more puppy chaos in the near future. This woman instead of giving her daughter money for a frozen treat, she goes to the establishment and prepays for it so she her daughter gets there she can just pick it up and it’s paid for, sounds normal enough. But then a shift change happens, the people who were paid for the treat went home and a set of new faces that are oblivious to the arrangement are now working. When the daughter gets there to get her treat, she is met with confusion and dismay as nobody is aware of the arrangement. The woman comes back and the workers calmly give her a refund. She then walks away and comes back and curses at them in which they tell her never to come back. Obviously this is a huge misunderstanding but I don’t think the store handled the arrangement well, do you?

This woman claims when she went to the drive through, she asked for no chicken or bleu cheese since she’s allergic, but when she got her food it was on there anyways so she told them she didn’t want a refund but only for them to remake it. According to her the manager got upset and called the police and told them that she was being violent and trying to get in and pulling the doors and such. But based on the video it shows a totally different story. Do you feel something else is going on based on what you see or is the manager just out to get her like she’s trying to portray her as doing?

I could easily pull this toy out of her mouth but then she will lose confidence and not want to play so I'm keeping it easy.
