Matt Painter shares why he stopped overselling recruits and started telling them the truth. "If you're gonna become one of our top 2 or 3 scorers, here's how I'm gonna use you. If you don't, then you're gonna have to blend in with those top 2 or 3 scorers... from an offensive standpoint." Then he asked them a question: "Has anybody said this to you? Other coaches said this to you?" "And they'll be like, 'No, you're the only one.'" "I go, 'Well, they're gonna say it to you. They're just not gonna say it to you until November 1st before that first exhibition game.'" Other coaches wait until it's too late. Painter tells them upfront. Reid said, "We're here to teach, not to judge." "I'm gonna come in with an open slate. You're gonna paint the picture for me on how you take in the day." "Whatever God-gifted abilities you have and how you're willing to exploit those to the best of your ability - it's an empty slate when you come in. You're gonna paint that picture for me." Every player gets a fresh canvas. What they do with it is up to them. Then he was asked how he balances not judging with having to evaluate: "I'm (going to) give you an opportunity to show...Somewhere we gotta make a decision on who can make the team, who doesn't." "If you've gone about this the right way - if you've attacked that painting properly - we're gonna try to help you get on with somebody else." I gotta admit, yesterday was not easy, but that's the days, days like that, you gotta grab your balls and say you know what? Pullback days happen. And there's no reason to sell just because we have a down day. There's no reason to sell if you have no reason to sell. Other than that, it's a down day. Pullbacks happen. You want a big winner? You gotta endure some pullbacks. That's just how it works. You can't have straight up action every day. One that tested me a little bit was FNGU. That one dipped below the 20 day, but then it bounced exactly where it should have bounced. Becky: i think i would say, when it was 17-year-old me honestly i probably break down and wouldn't be able to handle it. But 22-year-old me now is saying that with the kind of position you're in, it's basically impossible to not have any criticism or someone hate. This is reality fact you have to accept but you just gotta accept it and you gotta move forward. I think, the more known you become hate can get harsher, words can get harder it can hurt more but you have to learn how to say, this what I'm gonna focus on this is what I'm not gonna focus on. Honestly, i see hate everyday. But now i just choose ignore it and i hope you guys do as well. It's not good for your mental health, it's not good for anything.
