Mechanical engineers hate making 2D engineering drawings. Fabricate (YC F24) generates them instantly, saving them up to 40 hours a month.

@tryfabricate Those doesn’t need to be a whole separate tool, they should license the code to CAD software companies , (Dassault systems , AutoDesk , Siemens , etc) and have it intergrated into a complete CAD package

Cool idea. My take is that a better path forward (long term) is developing a canonical 3d drawing format with callouts notes and tolerancing and getting it adopted by the industry. Interestingly enough when working with Chinese manufacturers they preferred a STEP file and a screenshot with key tolerances called out because there are often errors in drawings. USA mfg did always want drawings which is good from a professionalism standpoint because they are uniquely legal documents. But we often spent a long time discussing things that were obvious in a STEP file. And any kind of complex surface (very common now) cannot be captured in a drawing so for industrial design you’d end up with 20% of the geometry in a drawing and 80% in a 3D file. Some general thoughts. Love the idea and hope it succeeds!
