i think what people dont realise is, if you're going to confront sonic's rigid character, then you should have something worthwhile to say sa2 gives sonic a small character arc to learn to respect shadow, and its earned with what the story has to say about nature vs nurture

Notice how the 'Dark Age' era Sonic games are used here in good light. At that time, it was unbearable because of the games' reception Nowadays, these games are praised and I'm glad honestly (at least, this guy does that) It's time we showed more respect to these older games

On one hand, It’s cool that Sonic can influence the narrative in consequential ways. That he’s never changing to his core. On the other hand, the execution of that kind of writing at times, can be predictable and rigid. And when not done well, it falls flat.

@luigitimepdv imo, i think thats a positive in disguise sonic being so predictable allows for other characters to take the spotlight instead its a sign that other characters should be given greater focus

@luigitimepdv I think that works better in the games than it does in other media. Due to the games being interactive media. Even then, I wouldn’t mind a switch up here and there.

nobody's stopping you from liking both, but liking something and it being faithful to the character are two different things. ALtheBoi, in the video, talks about how the whole point of game Sonic is that HE doesn't go on a character arc. the people AROUND him do.

Shahra, Blaze, Merlina, Chip, they all change because of who Sonic already is. he doesn't need to learn or grow, he just IS. that unbreakable spirit is what makes him Sonic.

IDW Sonic treating him like just another character who needs to be written around rather than the force of nature that inspires everyone he meets isn't "both versions", it's a misunderstanding of the character at a fundamental level.

I've always thought Sonic is a stereotype, not a character that can have development. He's like Superman or He-Man in that sense, he's like a force of the universe sent to impose order in times of chaos.
