"More than a dozen studies have shown that ingesting at least 1,000 mg per day of the EPA form of essential fatty acid is as effective as prescription antidepressants in relieving depression." - Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D. POWERFUL

@hubermanlab This is probably the most important piece of advice I ever received from Andrew. Started taking high dose EPA in early 2021 and put my severe bipolar into remission within 2 mos. My GAD, OCD, and ADHD also waned tremendously. Best info out of hundreds of amazing tidbits from him!

The link between fats and mood (or depression) was covered in Phil Maffetone's "Big Book of Endurance Racing" back in the day. I was feeling the pressure at one point so tried a mix of baked beans with big blobs of coconut oil, butter and virgin olive oil once a day.. miraculous impact within a couple of days. Now referred to as "magic beans" at home.

@hubermanlab Fun fact: placebo pills in double blind trials are 75% as effective as certain prescription antidepressants 🤷

@hubermanlab Good thing I take 3,000mg of EPA :)

@hubermanlab ...and essential fatty acids won't give you permanent #PSSD, a topic you STILL need to cover in-depth with @wdpsychiatry, @hubermanlab!

@hubermanlab Promoting fish oil when you can get it from algae oil just as much is a disgrace from that caliber of science.

@hubermanlab Please do share the references for the dozen comparative effectiveness trials.

@hubermanlab Brand? Best place to get?

@hubermanlab This should be read more like "the current mainstream antidepressants like SSRIs/SNRIs are close to placebo" than "fish oil/EPA is an effective antidepressant"

@hubermanlab The fish pills kill my stomach. Anyone have any tricks besides taking before a meal?
