I don’t get the people naysaying patterns Without these patterns and having common names for them, how do you describe your codebase to other developers? We have this thingamagig that connects to the doo dad Patterns are the language senior developers use to talk to one another The ones from that book look stupid to you the same way Seinfeld doesn’t seem funny to you Patterns book was the first attempt to codify modern software concepts. Seinfeld was the first sitcom to codify modern humor in a tv show

FWIW design patterns are amazing, and smart people know just when to employ them

Im so tired of these non-sense people.Just hack, hack and glue with no thought about maintability.Solid advices from real experts, like uncle bob, eric evans, martin fowler or vaugh vernon etc, are neglected. Why it is so? Laziness? Not taking pride in work?

it seems useful, the problem is some people are too dogmatic and interpret everything as prescriptive.

Design Patterns really helped me as a programmer especially in the beginning of my career. At the end of the day every problem and solution requires careful analysis to determine which pattern to apply or which variation of them to use. For me to it trained me to think critically about system design & architecture. For those who it destroyed, I think they lacked critical thinking skills in computer science fundamentals to begin with because no one says you need to use these patterns all the time.

Let's "unlearn this crap", discover the same patterns again, give it fancy new names and call it new ✅
