Intense heatwave and Chandigarh on a tree cutting spree. When the entire country is advised how to protect themselves from #Heatwave. Ridiculously ridiculous. There wasn’t the need to cut these trees. These trees are not obstruction . The road is wide enough. Cycle track is already there. These trees were guy grown Eucalyptus trees. Somehow I am seeing eucalyptus trees are the ones being cut all over Chandigarh, in Panjab University, Sector 9 , last year in sector 7 as well. The cost of eucalyptus timber generally ranges from ₹400 to ₹900 per cubic foot depending on the region and wood quality. For bulk quantities or industrial use (e.g., pulp, poles, or firewood), it typically costs between ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 per metric tonne. Why just eucalyptus? This family went out of town for vacation. When they got back they noticed the neighbor had cut down some branches from their tree that were hanging over to their side. No discussion, no contact, they felt like they waited until they were gone to trim the tree. Many people said that if it is on their side hanging over they have every right to cut those branches. A lot of people brought up “Tree Law” and suggested she had a case. 🤔 Looks like there are more branches that hang over as well. We have many trees in my neighborhood and many of us share trees that give us shade and hang over each other’s property. Apparently there is a whole section dedicated to laws that govern trees between neighbors. 🤯 Have you ever heard of “Tree Law”? What would you do if you were the neighbor? If you were the owner and had come back and noticed your tree limbs cut?

Let’s celebrate one of the most wonderful trees in the world - the coconut tree! Also known as the Tree of Life, every part of the coconut has a purpose, both for practical and spiritual means. Coconut trees are an important part of tropical and coastal ecosystems, preventing soil erosion and water runoff. With a lifespan of 60-80 years, it is considered a “three-generation tree” as it can support a farmer, his children, and his grandchildren, as well as the soil that supports us all. This man who is a landscaper said you should never build a tree coffin around a tree. He said it ends up making the tree die by restricting the roots and having too much mulch. I never knew they were called "tree coffins". I looked it up and it does say they can be very detrimental to your tree if not done correctly. The pavers can restrict root growth and the mulch shouldn't be too thick or torching the base of the tree. I have seen some pretty nice "tree coffins". I never knew they were bad for your trees. Do you have these around your trees? Did you build one a certain way that allows your tree to flourish? What about the people who cemented their pavers together and in the ground?

Hornbills are drawn to tall, old trees for a reason. They do not build nests and depend entirely on natural cavities and deep hollows formed over decades in towering giants to breed and raise their chicks. These trees, often hundreds of years old, have quietly sheltered generations of hornbills. They also sustain life, as hornbills and many other species feed on a variety of fruits,seeds and insects found on trees. The survival of these towering elders can determine whether future generations of hornbills endure or fade away, for they are truly the Trees of Life. THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A SKYWAY I condemn the DENR for allowing the tree-cutting and earth-balling of HUNDREDS OF TREES along Quirino Avenue in Manila City. All of these trees cut. Just to pave the way for the construction of the “Southern Access Link Expressway” (SALEX) by San Miguel Corporation. The SALEX spans a measly 4 kilometers but four elevated lanes. A total of 617 trees will be affected. 617 trees — all of it for just 4 kilometers of an expressway which will never reduce traffic because all expressways have been proven to actually induce demand for automobiles according to empirical research and scientific studies. Hundreds of trees have ALREADY been cut but hundreds more will be cut in the next few days. I call on President Bongbong Marcos, the DENR, SMC, and the City of Manila to stop this madness. This woman lives in an HOA. The back of her yard backs up into an easement that is owned by the HOA. The trees back there are on the easement. She points out that there are fallen branches all over her neighbors yard because of the trees and there were many in her yard as well. So she and her children went and picked up all the branches and sticks in her yard and then she piled them up under the tree. She said since the tree is on the HOA easement, it’s their problem. She wants to know if she is the bad guy in all this. If it were me, I’d maintain my yard and put the branches and sticks out for the trash pickup. Do you think she is in the right and it’s the HOA’s problem? Or do you think she is wrong and is making a mountain out of a molehill and there are better hills to plant your flag on?

Young trees need water to survive 🌳💧 Get involved – watch and share resources – order FREE watering tags ➡ Newly planted trees need to be watered regularly over the summer months if they are going to become established and thrive. If you have a tree outside your house, or one that you pass on your daily walk, then you can help. According to the Met Office rainfall between January and June 2022 was the lowest since 1976. Established mature trees are able to find their own water. However, it is recommended that newly planted trees are given 50 litres of water per week during the summer months, for the first three years after planting.

Today, on June 5 on #WorldEnvironmentDay2025 mountains of gratitude to the tribal families like these (see video clip of a tribal farmer family picking coffee cherries in Dumbriguda Mandal) that we Naandi Foundation had the privilege to work for last 25 years. These families not only grow and harvest to perfection world famous ARAKU Coffee India arakucoffee but also created a model of recreating lost forests and trees. Each family has an Acre each of a coffee estate with silver oak trees, pepper, indigenous boundary forest trees; and an orchard of fruit trees with timber and biomass creating hedge trees. These communities spread across 1900 villages across 8 Mandals in the Alluri Sitaraman District (part of the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh State) have planted and raised over 49 million trees and brought back scores of varieties of invaluable insects, bees, wasps and birds that have made this entire region full of “Food Forests”. All I the last 13 years. I bow to them. They are my heroes. These 100,000 tribal families. Let’s applaud them. 👏 I hope someday this entire population gets the global recognition they deserve for their contribution to Environment, bio diversity, regeneration based agriculture and sustainable development.
