I'm not the only one who has opposed the One Nation, One Election bill; the vast majority of parties have opposed it. It's a violation of the federal structure of India enshrined in our Constitution. Why should the mandate of a state suddenly be truncated because of the timetable of the nation? In the parliamentary system, you can't have fixed terms. Govts fall and rise, and in a parliamentary system, it's bound to happen. It was for this reason that fixed terms were discontinued decades ago. It's a waste of public expenditure as it will result in the same difficult situation. The votes today have demonstrated that the BJP doesn't have the two-thirds of the majority required to pass a Constitutional Amendment bill. : Shashi Tharoor ji on the One Nation, One Election bill tabled today in the Lok Sabha.

We will oppose the introduction. We will demand its reference to a Joint Parliamentary Committee. We believe it's unconstitutional. We believe it goes against the basic structure and it is meant to throttle democracy and accountability in this country. Mallikarjun Kharge had written to former President Ramnath Kovind on 17 January on why the Congress party is objecting to the very idea of one nation, one election. The one nation, one election bill is only the first milestone, the real objective is to bring a new constitution. Amending the Constitution is one thing but bringing a Constitution which is the real objective of the RSS and PM Modi...We know what the RSS thinks about this Constitution. They rejected this Constitution on 30th November 1949 saying that it doesn't derive inspiration from the values of Manusmriti and so on. One nation, one election, is only a first step, the real step is to completely change this Constitution, replace this constitution with a new constitution. That's what we are opposing..."

Let me state this plainly: I condemn Solidariteit’s divisive rhetoric in its totality. It is divisive, it is anti-democratic, and it has no place in our sovereign nation. The Afrikaner community is a fundamental part of South Africa's unity & diversity, one group among many that make our nation strong. They are not, and will never be, some separate, carved-out entity. We are one people under one flag. My duty is to advance the interests of all South Africans on the global stage. These desperate attempts to splinter us only weaken our hand. We will not be distracted from securing & promoting the national interest of the nation.

One Nation One Election – A much needed reform that comes with inherent challenges! I have always supported the idea of One Nation, One Election. Many people don't realize that India actually conducted simultaneous elections for Parliament and most State Assemblies until 1967. So, this isn't a new concept, it is something we moved away from over time. Imagine the amount of money, time and administrative effort that can be saved if the entire country votes together once every five years. More importantly, governments can spend more time governing instead of constantly preparing for the next election. Frequent elections also mean repeated enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, which delays projects and slows decision-making. Of course, this reform won't be easy. It will require constitutional changes, political consensus and careful planning. But every major reform comes with challenges. For me, One Nation One Election is not just about elections it is about better governance, policy continuity and nation-building. If implemented with the right safeguards, I believe it will be one of the most significant electoral reforms in independent India. Big reforms need bold political will!

The Prime Minister and Attorney-General have called on One Nation to disavow the Nazi party, and media outlets like the Sydney Morning Herald unfairly claimed that One Nation refused to denounce Nazis despite quoting speeches where we explicitly did so. One Nation completely disavows neo-Nazis and ethno-nationalists who distort nationalism to promote supremacy.
