With all the buzz around the Codex App, OpenAI Developers quietly snuck out a new CLI update (0.94.0) as well. And boy is it an important update! Codex Plan mode is now officially released to the general audience! I am very excited about this one as it has a really strong prompt that is unlike any other plan mode I've personally used. Codex Plan mode doesn't necessarily just ask you 3 questions up front. It goes, collects context, asks questions, collects more context, asks more questions (sometimes), and then writes an incredibly high quality plan. It is my favorite implementation of plan mode thus far. It also comes with Codex's own version of "AskUserQuestion!" Although, it only works in Plan mode for now. They really need to allow people to use it in Code mode as well, but one win at a time. npm i -g @openai/codex Below is a demo of how it works. Let me know what you think!

When I’m trying to improve the user experience of my applications, one of the most valuable things is being able to see an entire user flow as a storyboard. Not just one screen or screenshot at a time. This is something I love using the `/visual-plan` skill for. You can describe any flow you want, and the agent will look through your code and wireframe out a storyboard of what the flow looks like. Then you can visualize the steps in a simplified way and spot areas to improve. Recently, I found that in certain flows we were still asking for organizations, even though I thought I had gotten rid of that and made it automatic. A quick storyboard let me see all the different code paths in a simple, visual, intuitive way. Spot the areas of the flow I didn’t want. And have the agent fix it. Sign up, onboarding, and setup flows are usually some of the most important experiences in your app. And usually the least looked at. Especially because it can be hard to reproduce every flow, for every situation, for every user type, feature flag, or whatever else you have. The `/visual-plan` skill lets you visualize any part of your code. Either to understand the current state, plan out a new state, or recap updates that were made. I’m pretty addicted to this skill. I use it for a lot of other things too, so let me know if you want to see videos on those. And of course it’s all open source. You can grab it on my GitHub. I'll link to it in the thread. If you try it, let me know your feedback.

It should force you to concisely answer: What is the problem you’re trying to solve? What is the unmet need you believe will emerge? And what is it that you’re going to do that is sufficiently hard that when everybody else finds out it’s a good idea, they’re not going to swarm it and make you obsolete? It has to be sufficiently hard to do.” Marc Andreessen echoes similar points in a separate interview: “The process of planning is very valuable for forcing you to think hard about what you’re doing, but the actual plan that results from it is probably useless. In particular, now that we’re VCs, we’re evaluating pitches and when people come in, we want to hear their plan and we want to hear it in some detail because we want to see that they can think about the entire thing end-to-end. And if their initial plan doesn’t make sense, then obviously there’s an issue because they’re not quite capable of fully thinking this through. Sulwe is developing a new skill: stick balancing. It's an impressive effort, but we think she needs a little more practice. Fortunately, one fallen stick doesn't perturb this little imp, shuffling around and switching to 'trunk mode' to tackle a small shrub instead! Sulwe is now one of four elephants born to orphans rescued, raised, and now living in the Kibwezi Forest. Born on Christmas Day, you can read about her and her mum Sonje - one of the founding orphans of our Umani Springs herd - at:

This showcases how powerful Ghostty's keybinding system is getting! And don't worry, I plan on shipping a built-in "vim mode" table (unbound by default) so you can bind an opinionated "vim mode" with a single line in your config. But, if you want to modify it in any way, that's completely possible because this all works via standard config.
