Progress at the SpaceX & Tesla joint Advanced Technology Chip Fabrication factory has hit another gear, with the foundation not only taking shape, but expanding longer to the S. The beveled corners that we saw in the original render have yet to emerge, so I’m not sure if this... is a change, or will be added later. GeoPiers and grouting of piers seems to be well underway today, while footing rebar cage assembly is moving right along on the NE of the foundation. Steel beams & columns are beginning to be stockpiled nearby. 4 new permits were filed in the past few days for the large trailer complex that houses the general contractors and the temporary Tesla offices for the new facility, a great sign that things are progressing rapidly behind the scenes to fit out the facility when construction progresses far enough to allow for equipment installation. This all says “acceleration” to me!show more

How does the Advanced Technology Chip fab (joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX) look today? Most of the progress is on the main foundation which for now appears rectangular, GeoPiers are at work on the part of the foundation that has had gravel mix placed on the top soil and more work grading on the south end. Since I always get this question, this is NOT the Terafab that will be built likely a 100 miles or so to the east in Grimes Country, Texas. This is the smaller development facility that is the first part of the overall AI Chip development program.

I noted farther to the north several new temporary structures going up, most likely the shops that will allow the movement of the remainder of the workshops and recycling yard not eh E side to allow for the Chip Fab construction to begin in earnest later this summer.

On the S end, the final foundation footings and perimeter beam excavations are underway for what may be the full length of the structure. As a reminder, this is the precursor facility for the much larger Terafab plant currently also under initial construction about 100 miles east in Grimes County.

Big news at the new Optimus 10m/y factory construction site today! The 1st steel structure has been erected & as expected the second phase of land reclamation is underway. This will allow this new factory to grow to nearly the same length as the main Giga Texas factory, although it will be a few hundred feet (~50 - 70 m) narrower. If you did not realize the massive size of this new factory, this should tell you all you need to know! A lot of steel beams & columns were being delivered to the site today and using the new staging yard in the nearby “lone tree” field. Check out this short clip showing the expansion, the steel structure & more of the foundation work!

The North Campus at Giga Texas (aka Optimus 10M/yr factory) work on the main foundation continues, with gravel & crushed concrete being laid down in a massive excavation on the south end, while GeoPier, footing construction & rebar cage assembly work makes progress on the middle to the north end of the site. The foundation work shows at least two types of footing construction underway, one of which appears as isolated footings (or pad footings) with a column starter cage which is a standard reinforced concrete foundation element used under individual columns in buildings. The Tesla Optimus factory at Giga Texas continues to make fast progress with assembly & more than double the number of cranes are now working on the site! We also see steel truss beams arriving, hinting some open areas without 4 floors of the structure may soon emerge in its construction. On the an end, assembly is rapidly approaching the perimeter beam, while on the S end more GeoPiers, footings & perimeter grade beam construction continues. Roof access structures are beginning to be assemble too, while rebar is being laid down on the floor decking ahead of concrete pours.

Permits show Data Hall 5 is now in the process of being completed inside while crews are working hard to prepare for a doubling of the installed Megapacks (from ~130 currently to ~250 when completed). The part 2 of the chiller system assembly continues, with most of the superstructure in lace and the 6 fan openings on the roof taking shape. Utilities, plumbing, storm water management systems & more are nearly completed in and around the facility. This facility will be important to train the Optimus Robots & in the distance just north of the facility, the new 10M/yr Optimus factory is starting to take shape.

My first drone flight over the location of what will be the most advanced chip fabrication plant & largest building in the world … and surprise, just like the Giga Texas announcement, construction is already underway! Thank you to Tesla for approving my flight over this facility. Lots yet to come I am sure! Main video coming a bit later!

Another major construction project at Tesla Giga Texas today is the new test track on the far SW of the property! A large “oval” like outer track with what looks like a smaller oval track is definitely taking shape, and of course there will be support structures and more added as this project continues to make progress. Overall, the amount of construction around the Giga Texas project is approaching the original effort to make the main factory almost 6 years ago! It’s hard to keep track of it all, but I’m trying! Such an amazing story that has been, & continues to happen here just east of Austin!

The approach is similar to what we saw with the main factory building when it began construction. Grade preparation & old sand & gravel mine reclamation work, while GeoPiers put in piers to support footings & then steel erection beginning int eh center part of the structure, then proceeding to the N & then S as the structure assembly progresses. Tesla construction uses an agile & Minimum Essential Capability (MEC) approach which means we are likely to see portions of the factory be completed more quickly than other portions to allow the start of equipment installation & initial testing before the rest of the structure is completed. I also think we are seeing this in two main parts … the first where the structure is rising now & the second, further south where ground reclamation work is still needed before grade preparation can begin. Rebar is in place for more pours, the new tall crane is assembled and working the slab, and the last reinforced footings on the south end are still going in. This is the joint Tesla / SpaceX ATCF on the east side of Giga Texas and it is a ~490,000 sq ft research fab. Heavily vibration-isolated foundation (GeoPiers, pedestal piers, massive footings) because chip lithography can’t tolerate movement. It’s the prototype: logic, memory, packaging, and test under one roof so they can make a chip, test it, revise the mask, and repeat without shipping wafers. This is also the precursor to the much larger Terafab in Grimes County. Chips here are meant for Optimus, Cybercab, future Tesla vehicles, and SpaceX Starmind / orbital compute. Construction in multiple locations continues at Giga Texas today as the test track takes shape & features really begin to emerge (might be a great place to demo the new Roadster 🤔🤠). On the E side, the site clearing for the new Advanced Technology Fab is underway, with more demo of old structures, material movement & River Rd extension next to where the Riverpark will be constructed next to the Colorado River. This is similar to the main factory construction and I suspect we will see varying levels throughout the structure as it continues to build out. This means that with the extension work to the south to reclaim even more land to further lengthen the structure, it will have a meaningful % of the 11 Million Sq Ft of the main factory, so this is truly becoming a massive factory! A large steel staging yard in nearby in the “lone tree” field & several large cranes are at work actively adding more steel as they build out from the center, again, very similar to how the main factory was constructed. Check it out!

And in fact the word that I’m privy to announce to you from Mohsen Rezaei is that he actually wishes that the United States will make an attempt to breach the Strait of Hormuz because then that will give him the ability to sink a warship or two and he would be fully justified and that will be the final nail in the coffin of the malignant toddler’s wet dreams or delusional ideas. So the next few days — I’m not even saying a few weeks, the next few days — are extraordinarily important because if the final outcome of that is that Trump and the American empire come to the right decision to get the hell out of the region, that will be the beginning of the end of the American hegemony in the world, not just in that area. That will mean the first step towards the destruction of the petrodollar. And when the petrodollar is destroyed, the ability of the United States to simply print money and to finance its debt is going to be over.
