At Giga Texas, the new joint SpaceX & Tesla Advanced Technology Chip Fabrication facility foundation shape & size is beginning to emerge, with a defined rectangular excavation area that has had some GeoPiers and now gravel mix being applied while it continues to grow longer on the S end. How does the Advanced Technology Chip fab (joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX) look today? Most of the progress is on the main foundation which for now appears rectangular, GeoPiers are at work on the part of the foundation that has had gravel mix placed on the top soil and more work grading on the south end. Since I always get this question, this is NOT the Terafab that will be built likely a 100 miles or so to the east in Grimes Country, Texas. This is the smaller development facility that is the first part of the overall AI Chip development program.

The main work continues to be grade preparation, clearing & relocation of temporary workshops, material storage & equipment & there was some preliminary GeoPier work strengthening the soil for eventual construction. I noted farther to the north several new temporary structures going up, most likely the shops that will allow the movement of the remainder of the workshops and recycling yard not eh E side to allow for the Chip Fab construction to begin in earnest later this summer.

Big news at the new Optimus 10m/y factory construction site today! The 1st steel structure has been erected & as expected the second phase of land reclamation is underway. This will allow this new factory to grow to nearly the same length as the main Giga Texas factory, although it will be a few hundred feet (~50 - 70 m) narrower. If you did not realize the massive size of this new factory, this should tell you all you need to know! A lot of steel beams & columns were being delivered to the site today and using the new staging yard in the nearby “lone tree” field. Check out this short clip showing the expansion, the steel structure & more of the foundation work!

The North Campus at Giga Texas (aka Optimus 10M/yr factory) work on the main foundation continues, with gravel & crushed concrete being laid down in a massive excavation on the south end, while GeoPier, footing construction & rebar cage assembly work makes progress on the middle to the north end of the site. The foundation work shows at least two types of footing construction underway, one of which appears as isolated footings (or pad footings) with a column starter cage which is a standard reinforced concrete foundation element used under individual columns in buildings. I’m not sure why there are serial kinds of footings being used here, but it is similar to what was used for the south extension to the main factory, along with a few other areas in the main building.

Permits show Data Hall 5 is now in the process of being completed inside while crews are working hard to prepare for a doubling of the installed Megapacks (from ~130 currently to ~250 when completed). The part 2 of the chiller system assembly continues, with most of the superstructure in lace and the 6 fan openings on the roof taking shape. Utilities, plumbing, storm water management systems & more are nearly completed in and around the facility. This facility will be important to train the Optimus Robots & in the distance just north of the facility, the new 10M/yr Optimus factory is starting to take shape.

Construction in multiple locations continues at Giga Texas today as the test track takes shape & features really begin to emerge (might be a great place to demo the new Roadster 🤔🤠). On the E side, the site clearing for the new Advanced Technology Fab is underway, with more demo of old structures, material movement & River Rd extension next to where the Riverpark will be constructed next to the Colorado River. Big news concerning operational changes at Giga Texas including a push for more public venues & options for direct vehicle delivery from the factory. A few key highlights: Customer direct vehicle deliveries have already been happening at a small level from Giga Texas for a few months ... this also includes the 1st fully autonomous delivery across Austin A new customer direct delivery center (essentially a sales center) is being added on the N end of the W End-of-Line (EOL) facility ... this will be open to the public & will be used for customers who opt for this instead of autonomous delivery to their house Customers will be able to take delivery & complete all paperwork to take possession of their new car at this location New road access is currently being added on the NW corner of the out bound lot, & the N-S road that connects to Tesla Road on the N & River Road on the S will allow customer access to this location This recent decision changed the original plans for a new Welcome Center near Tesla Road ... it will now be constructed in the large plot of land just N of the EOL & use the new public road access as well Discussions continue about the potential second Boring Company tunnel for Model Y transit from the factory to the EOL facility. This debate is ongoing, but I think we will see a tunnel at some point.

Grade preparation & old sand & gravel mine reclamation work, while GeoPiers put in piers to support footings & then steel erection beginning int eh center part of the structure, then proceeding to the N & then S as the structure assembly progresses. Tesla construction uses an agile & Minimum Essential Capability (MEC) approach which means we are likely to see portions of the factory be completed more quickly than other portions to allow the start of equipment installation & initial testing before the rest of the structure is completed. I also think we are seeing this in two main parts … the first where the structure is rising now & the second, further south where ground reclamation work is still needed before grade preparation can begin. Again, this is very reminiscent of how the main factory was constructed in 2020 through 2022.

This means that with the extension work to the south to reclaim even more land to further lengthen the structure, it will have a meaningful % of the 11 Million Sq Ft of the main factory, so this is truly becoming a massive factory! A large steel staging yard in nearby in the “lone tree” field & several large cranes are at work actively adding more steel as they build out from the center, again, very similar to how the main factory was constructed. PUBLIC MEETING CANCELLED! We cannot allow cancel culture to continue in Ireland. The NGO’s or whoever is responsible for threatening the staff of the hotel should be prosecuted! We are supposed to be living in a democracy where free speech is valued, well we have witness that over the past 10 years that’s not the case. This meeting will go ahead, but 2 hotels cancelling out of fear is not good enough. Thanks to John Dallon for sharing this with me!

The realization over the last two extensions has come home to roost. There is not going to be a purchase of TikTok with the Chinese algorithm. We know that we can't buy the algorithm so we're gonna have to rewrite this whole thing, but while we're doing that, we're gonna try and solve for all the litigation that social media gets all stemming from the fact that the platform owns the data and the customer doesn't. I think we're gonna have to fix that. So our proposal is to fix that and not use the Chinese algorithm. When you issue a chip, let's say you take an NVIDIA chip, that chip is a queen bee. It sits in the center of the hive and every programmer that uses that chip is the honeybee. It spends millions of hours training on that chip, learning that chip, writing code for that chip and developing AI for that chip. That's the honey. There's only gonna be two kinds of honey on Earth. American or Chinese. Now if you want the world to be running on Chinese honey, stop shipping American queen bee chips, and that is what is happening right now.
