Realistic Ragdoll feels like lost technology on every game except those ones that Rockstar makes. How come every modern game aims to push for realism with Ray Tracing, yet no game has even come close to offer the level of ragdoll physics that Grand Theft Auto IV had in 2008.

At which point did we sacrifice realistic physics in the name of realistic graphics? I'm surprised that no Game developer has come remotely close to making an Euphoria Engine of their own, most Games today look beautiful, yet lack any form of realism in terms of ragdoll physics. I'm not criticizing Rockstar here by any means, every R* Game released in the past few years had amazing Ragdoll Physics, I'm simply shocked that no other Game Studio has managed to bring something remotely close to GTA IV Physics even to this day.

I'm surprised that no Game developer has come remotely close to making an Euphoria Engine of their own, most Games today look beautiful, yet lack any form of realism in terms of ragdoll physics. I'm always blown away by the fact that Rockstar Games casually made some of the best and most realistic water physics in 2008. GTA IV is the prime example of Rockstar Games focusing heavily on bringing realistic physics in a video-game. Everything from how a car handles, NPC ragdoll and water simulation in Grand Theft Auto IV was way ahead of its time and it even beats most of AAA games that we've seen these past few years when it comes to those game mechanics. Imagine how much ahead GTA 6 is going to be now that Rockstar Games has much more processing power to work with on current gen consoles

The only game that tops Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of overall realism will be GTA 6 Not visually of course, but everything. From the character movement, the realistic environments, random events, ragdoll physics, wildlife interacting with each other and also how NPCs naturally react depending on the player's actions. Its still crazy to me that this has yet to be topped by any other game studio except Rockstar Games themselves, RAGE engine is truly in a league of its own.

This is why Grand Theft Auto VI is taking Rockstar Games so long to develop Everything form NPCs to animals is going to feel alive and they will be interacting with each other, no game has ever come close to providing this level of realism.

GTA IV doesn't exactly have the most realistic ragdoll physics, but it damn well does have the most hilarious ones in a video-game. I love how Niko is launched 100ft into the air after a small motorcycle crash

One of the Grand Theft Auto V downsides was that it didn't match GTA IV in terms of euphoria ragdoll physics, in this example here you can see how easily the NPCs die when you shoot them on the foot. Part of the reason why I believe the euphoria engine was downgraded was due to the scale of GTA V and that it was designed for PS3/Xbox 360 consoles. Fast Forward a generation later, Red Dead Redemption 2 is much better compared to this, but I still prefer the one in Grand Theft Auto IV. When GTA VI comes out, perhaps we will see a more improved version of euphoria ragdoll physics which will be a mix of both GTA IV style ragdolls and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar should keep this feature from GTA V in GTA VI I'm so used to this manual ragdoll feature in GTA V that every time I boot up the game this is the first thing that I do, its kind of addictive and fun especially when you do this to NPCs

Fun Fact from Grand Theft Auto IV #13 Snow weather was considered and even partially implemented in Grand Theft Auto IV. These snow related files were found within the game and thanks to Fusion Fix on PC you can enable this snow mod at any time with a simple cheat code. Honestly, I do think GTA IV looks so good with this kind of weather as it gives it so much more depth, its a shame Rockstar didn't fully implement snow and have seasons in this game because it looks incredible!

Honest question, has any AAA game gotten close to providing the same level of realism when it comes to NPCs like Red Dead Redemption 2? Most open-world games that have come out recently are visually impressive, however NPC interactions always feel a generation behind RDR2. Its always good to see advancements when it comes to graphics, but I'd also like to see the same level of effort being put to systems that allow for more complex game mechanics like realistic NPC interaction, seamless random events which are in my opinion just as important as visuals. These things make a video-game feel more immersive and alive, its also the exact reason why its super easy to get lost in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 because of everything that happens around the world and the way NPCs react to your actions feels natural.

It blows my mind how Avalanche was able to pack a 1000+ km2 map with a full story, game characters, destruction physics, ragdoll mechanics, sound effects, different vehicles, helicopters and planes into a game that takes up only 4.80GB Just Cause 2 is a simply a great example of how good optimization used to be back then.

Red Dead Redemption 2 had some of the most eerie and creepy random events in any Rockstar game. There's literally a serial killer in this game that goes around murdering NPCs in horrific ways, I'm pretty confident Grand Theft Auto VI will probably be more down to earth and not as brutal as RDR2 was.

Borderlands 4 doesn't even have Ray Traced Reflections, yet demands the highest end hardware to run properly. At first I thought recent GPUs struggle with this game due to Ray Tracing but its clear that they didn't use RT.

Proof that you don't need Ray Tracing and Path Tracing to make a Game look beautiful. Kingdom Come Deliverance II has none of these techniques being used, it only uses a global illumination technique called voxel cone tracing As a result KCD2 runs and looks amazing on PC.

Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer 1 came out in March, 2007 The game came out 1 year and 1 month later in April, 2008 By comparison when Grand Theft Auto VI comes out (November 19th 2026), the GTA VI Trailer 1 will be almost 3 years old.

In one of the Grand Theft Auto VI screenshots that Rockstar Games shared back in May 2025, you can see some large fires in Ambrosia. Red Dead Redemption 2 was notorious for having extremely realistic fire physics and I can't wait to see how Rockstar will work upon that. Based on this screenshot alone you can see how much better it looks and how the smoke effects are much more realistic. Setting something on fire could last much longer and the fire could also grow much larger depending on weather conditions.

This level of traffic here is so dense that I struggle to make sense on how exactly they've made this possible on a console that has only 512MB total memory system, hell compare that to Windows 11 which averages to 5GB of RAM usage during idle and you can see how little resources Rockstar Games had working with here. If you remember, when Cyberpunk 2077 launched on PS4, Night City was practically a Ghost Town when you drove a car due to how much it would affect the framerate. Even most open-world games today don't add heavy traffic to save on resources, but GTA V is out here squeezing every last drop of my PS3 console just to add this number of vehicles for seemingly no reason all I can say is that Rockstar really knows how to push the limits of what a console can achieve and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with Grand Theft Auto 6.
