The New Hampshire House has just voted to take steps to annex Seavey's Island from Maine. Rep. Hon. Joseph Barton's HR 45 passed in a vote of 205 to 129. Seavey's Island, home of the Naval Shipyard, belonged to NH for over 300 years until it was stolen by Maine in 1997.

Goidhoo Atoll, a natural atoll administratively part of Baa Atoll. The French navigator Pyrard de Laval’s ship, Corbin, was wrecked near Innafushi — the only uninhabited island in the atoll. Pyrard provided a detailed historical account of the Maldives. The British surveyed the Maldives, led by East India Company hydrographer James Horsburgh, the atoll was named Horsburgh Atoll in his honor. Fehendhoo families were powerful in the government during the period Maldives embraced Islam. In the Middle Ages, Usman from Fehendhoo became the King of the Maldives. In the Buddhist era, Goidhoo was a prominent island. The island was called “Kandu Goidhoo” — “the Goidhoo of the sea.” The atoll itself was often called Goifulhafehendhoo, and among people of Baa Atoll, it was called Falhuthere. The three inhabited islands of Goidhoo Atoll were used as banishment or “prison islands” until recently. This woman is mistaken. Vilimale’ does not belong to its current residents. People move from place to place all the time. Vilimale’ belongs to all Maldivians. The majority of Maldivians are against cutting down trees, destroying coral reefs and similar for the sake of development. That is a very selfish thing to do. Our generation is able to enjoy the natural beauty of Maldives cause decades ago, our parents and grandparents took care of the land and caused no harm, even as hundreds of resorts and related services were developed. Otherwise, we would not be able to enjoy this today. Sadly, in the last 15 years this has been changing little by little, all in the name of development. We want to deliver the same beautiful Maldives we inherited to our unborn children too.
