“You're not entitled to get what you want. I love you. You're entitled to earn what you're willing to go work for. And that's true in our families, in our parenting, in our marriage, in our companies, in society. If we want it, go earn it. If that's positivity, have positivity. I think and I am a positive person. I am jacked. I am excited. Obviously, you can feel my energy through technology here, I hope. Frankly, think positive people just need to get a lot stronger. I really do. I mean, I don't want to call them weak because people hear that differently but it kind of is. Look, if you want that positivity to stick, you’ve got to get tougher. Not sacrifice your love and your care and your empathy, but you got to get tough. And then we have to figure out how to love the people who are cynical because I don't think there's a ton of bad people in the world and I don't think there's a ton of bad people on teams. But I do think there are people who've been burned out. I do think there are people who have been through things in their lives. They've been through things in their company. They're experiencing stuff somewhere else. For whatever reason, they just kind of got run down and cynical and negative, or whatever. Or they're just wired a little different than we are. And I don't to hate on those people. I want to win those people. They don't have to be like me. They don't have to have my energy. But I want those people on my team. I want to love those people. And if eventually they choose that they don't believe in the same things that I believe in, I want to make it really clear and obvious that they don't want to be on this team because we're not about that. You know what I'm saying? I want it to be very easy, obvious, that, ‘Hey I should not be on this team. Because this team is full of very positive people who have great energy and talk to people, not about them.’ And we solve problems. We don't complain. We don't get defensive. We're real. I recognize I'm imperfect and I'm vulnerable to show you that about me. I want to be on that kind of a team. And if there's somebody who doesn’t believe in that stuff, I want to make it really easy for them to say, ‘Look, I don't want to be on this team. I don't wanna live like you guys live. You're doing all this stuff... scrabbling like a guy in a well trying to find a handhold. And if you don't have a good community of people also doing that... you're on your own." On the rocket ship: "I think about personal growth kind of like a rocket ship taking off. As you take off, you've got a particular velocity. What you want is to find other people moving at the same velocity as you. But the quicker that you move... the fewer people are going to be like you." On having to do it again: "One of the difficult realizations for people who want to change their life... if you do it well, you might have to go through a period where you let go of all of your friends." The worse realization: "If you do it really well... you might have to do that multiple times throughout your life. You find a group of people. Finally. After that period where you were on your own. And then... oh shit, I'm still going. I've outgrown them. I've got to do it again? I just thought I'd found my group. And I've got to do it again." On why few people make big changes: "This lonely chapter thing is a big deal. I think it explains why so few people make big changes. And then I try to feel and visualize what would be my reaction if that person came in to me and quit. If my reaction to that is, 'Yes! I don't want to smile, so I don't want to act like I'm happy about this. Nobody likes firing people. No problem at all, we'll replace them'—that's a C player. That's someone you should get the courage to get off the team right away. On the second category, if my reaction to it is, 'You know, it kind of sucks. I would've preferred that person stayed, but it's not the end of the world. We'll hire a headhunter. We'll get someone as good, maybe someone even better, and things will work out'—that's a B player. I'm going, 'Oh my God! Like I'm never going to find someone as good as her. No way. I'm never going to have someone as talented as that person. And I can't even hear what they're saying anymore because I'm just having this internal panic dialogue going on—that's what you call an A player. So I want all A players around me. I want people whose relationship with me I value so much that if it was terminated, I would be lost."

This is a long tweet - but its worth a read - Reform UK’s Dr David Bull talking about family and whether parents should stay at home to look after their children: “You want to support marriage through the tax system and make it easier for parents to stay at home to look after their children - what's the reason behind that?” Dr David Bull: We believe that children do better in stable relationships across the board. And actually we need to encourage that. In marriage you think? Dr Bull: In marriage, and that marriage is an important bond, isn't it? Because I think what children desperately need is someone at home, and they need someone to be there and support them during that education. So we think that's a cornerstone, actually. And one of the things that I find really strange and very difficult to understand is the disconnect that children now have, because when you come home, you want to be able to offload what's been going on at school, and you need someone at home to be able to do that. And if we can incentivise that through tax breaks that has to be a good thing. Do you think if you're a child with two working parents, that's not a great upbringing for you? Dr Bull: No… Of course, it's incredibly difficult. And parents have to work because of the cost of living. But actually, the ideal would be to have a parent that is there available when children need them. You say in the manifesto that the majority of mothers would choose to stay at home more if they could. What's the research on that? Dr Bull: So we polled extensively, actually. But I think if you talk to any mother, of course, they want to spend time with their children. They want to see them grow and develop. And if you're spending all your time at work and you don't have enough time with your kids, I think that's a travesty. You think it's a travesty?
