He had this to say; PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO ~ Raila trusted President Ruto. He often said their vision was the same, particularly the housing project. Mzee believed in broad-based. JUNET MOHAMMED was really trusted by Raila Odinga, and Junet was hurt the most after the loss of 2022 elections. SK MACHARIA believed in Raila. He wanted him to win and deploy resources. Eleven weeks after Raila Odinga passed, it’s time to stop pretending. We can mourn him yes, the man is gone but mourning doesn’t mean lying about the path he chose. Baba didn’t leave a movement behind. He left deals, alliances, and revenge. He chose President William Ruto over Kenya, his stomach over the people, and his ego over justice for the GenZs. The day Raila Omollo Odinga tapped into Edwin Sifuna’s body, instead of joining the other spirits of politics, was the day Edwin Sifuna stood in front of all ODM mourners who were feeling very sad about the loss of Mzee Raila. Edwin Sifuna stood strong at the podium, in an orange shirt, and quoted the last wish of Mzee Raila Omollo Odinga, where he clearly stated that ODM will be in the 2027 presidential race, and they will only be in the broad-based coalition if the 10-point agenda is met within 100 days. That moment, for me, was more than politics. It was about carrying forward the wishes, principles and political legacy that Mzee Raila left behind. But as you can check from the news materials, youths have been killed, and some have even lost their lives while in police custody. The health sector is not working at all. Mwananchi is struggling, and the very issues that ODM promised to fight for are still staring us in the face. This is why I believe Sifuna understood the assignment. He didn't stand there to replace Raila. He stood there to carry the torch. And since that day, I have looked at Edwin Sifuna differently. Because sometimes, leadership is not about taking someone's position. It is about having the courage to continue the journey when the person who inspired it is no longer there. Mzee Raila may be gone, but the dream, the struggle and the responsibility to fight for a better Kenya cannot be buried with him. That orange shirt was not just a colour that day. It was a reminder. Raila Odinga, the former prime minister and lifelong opposition icon who helped drag Kenya from dictatorship to democracy, has died at 80. Crowds have poured into the streets of Nairobi and Kisumu, waving flags and singing liberation songs in honor of the man whose word could stop riots - or start them. Odinga, who served as prime minister from 2008 to 2013, was a key architect of Kenya’s multi-party democracy (1991) and the progressive 2010 constitution that redefined national power. He was loved and feared in equal measure - a populist, a rebel, a dealmaker who never quite reached the presidency but shaped every one that followed. Even his rivals admired his gravity. After losing the 2022 election, he cut a surprise deal with President William Ruto, stabilizing the country and placing his allies in government. Tributes are flooding in from across Africa and beyond - from Narendra Modi to the African Union - hailing him as a champion of freedom and self-determination. For Kenya, it’s the end of an era.
