This is a very nice description of the problem. I think the first part of the solution is to not give into the hyper productivity hype: running a gazillion things in parallel. There's likely only a handful of humans that have the mental make-up to survive the permanent context switches. You can train your brain to become better at it, but there's a limit to that, and I found that it will lead to much worse outcomes in terms of output quality of both you and your clanker. I'm no neuroscientist, but I would assume there's a hard limit on how many things your brain can juggle at a time, probably made worse by the complexity that is code. I generally don't do more than 2-3 things in parallel. I use virtual desktops as "bundle of things that belong to a task", so terminals + editor + browser. Works fine, doesn't need any special OS support, expose on the virtual desktop let's me quickly switch to the task specific app I need. I also have a little pi extension that shows me what GH issue/PR the clanker session is about, with a link I can click to open the issue/PR in the browser. Plus 1 virtual desktop for entertainment, so the brain can get some rest. (better alternative: get up and walk a bit every 45 minutes) Video: - First desktop: pi session for a PR, extension shows me what PR I work on, can click to open in browser, aux terminal for random BS, editor, browser. Yes, I could split instead of having two terminal windows. I'm old. - Second desktop: clawdbot pi session, aux terminal for testing, editor, browser - Third desktop: entertainment booth

I tested Rust vs Javascript for games 🎮 I had this question recently and decided to port my Three.js game to Rust Desktop I'm still not able to reproduce the same look on both games but I believe that codewise they are very similar With both games running, the Rust version averages 37FPS while the Three.js version averages around 20FPS If I'm running one game at a time the FPS goes up considerably (60 FPS on both with power on) So the Rust version for Desktop has 85% increase in performance on my Macbook Pro M4 This comparision is basically comparing Browser vs Native, which is not completely fair So that's why I want to port the Rust version to WASM on the browser and benchmark again soon

Basic native desktop UI integration on Linux (file pickers etc.), + "immediate-mode program installation". It is important to me that distribution of RAD Debugger binaries is as simple as possible, so I keep everything packaged as a single standalone executable. But some systems, like the default Ubuntu environment, require extra files in order to "install" an application (e.g. so that they show up when searching in the program launcher, or to show their icons in the desktop environment UIs). Other similar "installation" steps exist on Windows, for example. Installation and uninstallation has always felt to me like a bunch of unnecessary work, which is why on Windows, people package "installers" and "uninstallers" as extra utilities, which wrangle all of the extra crap that a program needs to be "installed". But the important thing to the user is, obviously, just a single boolean: is the program "installed", or is it not? So it seemed to me that the simplest way to offer this functionality was to expose a checkbox as a regular program setting, found in the regular program UI. When it is checked, RADDBG ensures all of the appropriate configuration files are written. When it is unchecked, it ensures all of those files are deleted. Thus, you just get the single binary, run it, and optionally check the box if you want extra integration into your desktop environment.

BREAKING: OpenAI has officially released Agent Mode, allowing users to spin up a virtual desktop and take action. I got early access to ChatGPT Agent Mode and want to share my thoughts. Agent Mode lets you delegate tasks like searching or browsing to an agent inside a virtual desktop inside ChatGPT. You can spin up multiple little “workers” to fire off tasks and keep tabs as they chug through your to-do list AT THE SAME TIME. If it gets stuck or goes off track, you can take over manually. The UI is friendly and keeps the reasoning transparent, so you’re not left guessing what it’s doing or why. It’s not perfect and doesn’t give you as many artifacts as other players in the space, but a strong platform for “let’s see how much I can hand off and supervise”, and a first step toward managing fleets of AI workers instead of pinging a single chatbot for answers. If you’re on ChatGPT Pro, Plus, or Team, look for Agent Mode in the tools dropdown.

The update: → DeepSeek V4 Pro now has thinking mode, fast mode, and a brand new ultra mode → There's also an extra high mode, but the real upgrade is ultra The actual cost: roughly $1/day for a normal workflow. Holy CRAP! jnmartin gave me access to his private Sonic R decompilation repo, which will serve as the basis for the Sega Dreamcast port. I was able to build Sonic R NATIVELY for my x86_64 desktop, running Ubuntu 24.04, and immediately begin playing after just typing "make" and then passing the binary the location of my ripped (yet legally purchased) PC assets. ...but while he's at it, jnmartin has decided to make the base decompilation codebase platform-independent, so this should theoretically work on any platform that supports SDL2 and very basic OpenGL--no shaders required--with very low system requirements. jnmartin already has it running fine on the latest MacOS version on Apple silicon, and now we can confirm it works fine on Debian Linux distros, no problem. Next up we'll test for Windows. Oh, and by the way, to everyone freaking out over the fact that the decomp is starting from the PC version and not the Saturn version, lamenting the less vibrant coloring... Your voices have been heard! CHECK IT OUT NOW!!! ...just imagine 4p netplay between Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Sega Dreamcast! 🤯
