I’ve been running Ubuntu on my second machine for over a decade. After seeing another breakdown of Omarchy, this time from NetworkChuck, I’m fully making the switch today. He changed the entire desktop theme in seconds, used an AI agent to build a Quickshell plugin, handed a crashed process... show more

Chuck's Video:

I actually couldn’t wait. We are here now @dhh you truly cooked with this one sir!

@tobi @NetworkChuck That looks like I may switch honestly

@NetworkChuck I just spent weeks setting up my Ubuntu 😭

@NetworkChuck Weeks?!? Sheesh. Are you gonna give this a try?

Yeah, weeks tweaking the shit out of it with AI, vms, wine ports, changing interfaces, adding music production, graphic design apps, AI local models a lot of windows stuff lmao fml I want to try it but I don't have the resources right now to just switch again like that. I need my machine. I will def check it out, I've been waiting for the Linux AI moment! If it's good, which reading the news it seems like it's the start to modern consumer Linux (Dave has been popping up on my timeline for a while) so I will probably switch eventually. I think what makes Linux great is the communities behind each distro, and Omarchy is probably the community you want to be fucking with right now. Definitely keeping my eyes on Omacom.

@NetworkChuck Welcome to the family! 🙏

@NetworkChuck 100%, i'm going to make it my daily driver. Omarchy is making computers fun agian.

@NetworkChuck Very fun!

@NetworkChuck

@NetworkChuck linux is enough

@NetworkChuck Damn imma have to reboot again 😭

@NetworkChuck Yes, yes you are. Tighten up!

@NetworkChuck Wait theres no mouse?

@NetworkChuck You can use a mouse however it’s optimized for a short keys/key bindings actually did a little video. Gonna post in a minute

@NetworkChuck im already running arch so just another layer on top of my boot

@NetworkChuck That’s what’s its build on top of. modern and opinionated.

@NetworkChuck it's amazing how in the end the very thing that made a clueless bunch to mock Linux users will probably push it into a desktop era phase.

@NetworkChuck Sounds like a positive rather than negative

@NetworkChuck It is. But it was infinitely naive to dismiss how much you could do and how far you could tailor and customize your experience based on a random bias.

@tobi @NetworkChuck The more I play with Omarchy, the more I like it.

@NetworkChuck This is pretty cool. 😫 might have to make the jump. Thanks

@NetworkChuck Sure thing! Definitely check it out

@NetworkChuck Welcome to the Omarchy family! You're going to love it.

@NetworkChuck Already loving it! Thanks 🙏

@NetworkChuck I have a decade old XPS lying around, I think it still runs Ubuntu 20, have to try Omarchy on it

@NetworkChuck Have at Ronald!

@NetworkChuck Omarchy Quattro is the Way!

@NetworkChuck man I've been using ubuntu for the same amount of time and decided to switch to omarchy today because of the same vid lol

@NetworkChuck LOL twins. Its really good. I'm enjoying it so far. A good bit to learn

@NetworkChuck The agent part and keyboard part are exactly the reason i am also tyring it right now. I have equally been running ubuntu for all my Linux needs.

@NetworkChuck Yeah definitely core features for me

@NetworkChuck Normies are discovering arch because they rebranded it urh

@NetworkChuck So is this you saying you hate it or.. j

@NetworkChuck Thanks for sharing🙏🏻 Im already looking forward to the reaction from IT departments when devs suggest that “The OS is a surface my agent can modify”

@Techkev94 @NetworkChuck Depends on what IT departments in what sector or industry. They my be 3 business years behind by the time the discover it 😭

@NetworkChuck Dude this is an amazing write up. Now to go down this rabbit hole on my ubuntu box. Cheers!

@NetworkChuck No problem brother!! Go check it out 💪🏾

@NetworkChuck Omarchy uses Systemd. I use Void with Runit to avoid Systemd. Omarchy has a lot of useful tools and I use most of them in my Void system, but I would love it if Omarchy at least stopped using Systemd. Until then my only feelings about Omarchy are concern.

@NetworkChuck Is that your main issue?

@NetworkChuck I think my concern is a better word, calling it issue is a different, more loaded question. Not every distro is right for everybody. I think the movement is good, but flawed from the foundation, and without the proper foundational principles, easily hijacked.

@NetworkChuck Sheep

@NetworkChuck People can’t like shit huh. I get it, you need views

@NetworkChuck U can like shit but u don’t have to suck dick

@NetworkChuck

@NetworkChuck Nice, I ordered a new NVME drive for my Max+ 395 128GB system so i can just drop it in, hopefully on sunday, and install omarchy to give this style of workflow and local agent use a go. I'd like to follow you on your journey.

@NetworkChuck Happy to connect

@NetworkChuck I ran it a bit as a VM on Proxmox with this rig. Made the full swap about 6 months ago. Have not regretted it at all.

@NetworkChuck It’s solid. Getting mixed reviews in the comments but I like the system personally.

@NetworkChuck Interested to see a 2 week review. I too am so interested in this but I have trouble to distinguish between hype and reality - I guess I have to try it.

@NetworkChuck That’s the only way to know for yourself is by trying it. The most important thing to me is will it improve how you were already functioning, for me it does so far and it’s only been a day

@NetworkChuck NixOS is better with Niri.

@NetworkChuck Saw that breakdown too. The agent building a plugin in real time is genuinely useful. Less fussed about ricing but the workflow argument lands.

@NetworkChuck I just downloaded the iso from my Ubuntu machine after watching the same video.

@NetworkChuck only thing we need is it to get an optional "mouse-friendly" mode so that non-power users can use it as well. if i can use it like windows i will switch to it and i know many other people as well

@NetworkChuck Love to hear what you think when you do. I'm going to test it on a VM, I'm already very happy with Arch.

@NetworkChuck @grok explain omarchy. Does Ai have deep OS access and RWX permissions?

@NetworkChuck After the switch from Ubuntu, I don't think you'll enjoy going back. You're stuck on Omarchy now....
