Thomas Young's double-slit experiment, performed in 1801, is one of the most important demonstrations in physics. The light waves passing through these slits interfere with one another, creating a pattern of bright and dark fringes on a screen positioned behind the slits. The spacing and location of these fringes depend on the light's wavelength, the distance between the two slits, and the distance to the screen. This experiment established the wave nature of light.
